Datacard Group announced that their financial instant issuance solutions were used to help issue prepaid cards to those affected by the massive flooding in Canada. Severe flooding had forced thousands of residents to evacuate their homes throughout southern Alberta” including the City of Calgary, Town of High River and several others. The Alberta Government set up a flood assistance program that included issuing prepaid cards to affected Albertans. Those who qualified were able to receive $1,250 per adult and $500 per child. Datacard Group worked closely with Alberta to help the government very quickly issue prepaid cards to thousands of affected residents. Consumers in Nigeria who use the eTranzact Mobile Money platform now have the option of receiving a Western Union Money Transfer® transaction on their mobile phones. Consumers can receive funds from money transfer transactions initiated at westernunion.com transactional websites in 23 countries, or Western Union Agent locations around the world. Subscribers can use PocketMoni, the eTranzact Mobile Money platform, to pay utility and cable television bills, make merchant payments, top-up their mobile phone credits and/or make third party transfers.
VeriFone announced its PAYware Wynid managed payments solution is powering passenger ticket purchases aboard France’s national railroad operated by SNCF Group. Deployment began in April with the first 1,000 handheld devices that are planned to number 12,000 over three months and handle an estimated 1,650,000 million payment transactions annually across the SNCF-managed rail systems including the high-speed TGV trains. PAYware Wynid is a managed services platform that delivers all-in-one payment acceptance on mobile handheld devices used by conductors to accept domestic and international EMV card payments and process other functions such as ticket sales and exchange, invoices and information services for passengers.

American Express announced new technology capabilities to help make travel easier for today’s well-connected corporate traveler while also encouraging alignment with a company’s strategic travel and expense program. The capabilities announced today include a new platform that leverages social gaming mechanics to reward policy-adherent traveler behaviors; an integration with TripCase; a new capability that updates Corporate Card charges in near real-time so travelers can manage expenses on-the-go; and a new traveler-facing mobile interface for American Express’s duty of care solution, AX CONNECT.
American Express believes that incorporating gamification – an incentives-based approach using techniques from game design to motivate certain user behaviors – into travel management programs can prevent program leakage and therefore drive increased cost savings. Working with The Behavior Platform by Badgeville, a global leader in gamification and behavior management, American Express has created a pilot program that can be tailored to each company’s culture and travel program gaps. Wells Fargo (WFC) and American Express (AXP) partnered, by which Wells Fargo will issue new credit cards accepted on the American Express network. Wells Fargo will make the cards available in the marketplace nationwide by mid-2014. As part of the card-issuing partnership, American Express is providing its Partner Advantage capabilities and services to support Wells Fargo in developing a suite of products that will offer a superior set of experiences, exclusive benefits and customized offers from the American Express network, both online and offline. Separately, LoyaltyEdge from American Express will assist in the design of a new Wells Fargo loyalty program by offering a broad range of merchandise and gift cards that Wells Fargo’s consumer credit customers will be able to redeem with their points.

SingTel and Visa have announced a strategic alliance that will enable consumers in Singapore and Australia to pay for goods and services using their smartphones at all Visa payWave acceptance points worldwide. Visa is working with SingTel to link Visa prepaid accounts to mCash, SingTel’s mobile money solution. Planned for launch in early 2014, the service allows mCash customers to wave and pay with their NFC-enabled smartphones for daily necessities such as coffee, fast food, groceries and movie tickets at Visa payWave acceptance points. There are currently more than 12,000 Visa payWave acceptance points in Singapore and over 100,000 across Australia.
Adyen announced that Shuttle, its innovative payment solution enabling businesses to accept payments on-the-go from Android or iOS mobile devices at the point-of-sale (mPOS), is now available in 17 European countries following recent launches in Switzerland, Norway and Denmark. Shuttle became the first fully EMV (Europay, MasterCard, Visa) compliant mPOS device available in Europe last year, delivering payment acceptance via smartphones or tablets through a Bluetooth connection. The recent additions of Switzerland, Norway and Denmark, means that Adyen can now offer its mPOS solution in 17 European countries. Shuttle is also available in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom.
The SADC Integrated Regional Electronic Settlement System (SIRESS) was successfully implemented in a live environment for South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland. First stage of SADC Payment System project is in production; South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho and Swaziland are live on SIRESS; and benefit to our community of existing investment SWIFT. The first funding instructions between South Africa’s Real Time Gross Settlement System, SAMOS, and SIRESS were processed at 08:12 while the first customer payment was settled at 11:01 and by close of day twelve payments to the value of R 215,814,276.95 had been settled.
