American Express launched its “Social Media Show + Tell” series, adding tutorial videos explaining how small businesses can leverage Twitter to extend their brand influence. American Express offers an enhanced LinkedIn user group for small business professionals, Business Knowledge Share, in conjunction with the Head of Agency and Brand Advocacy at Twitter. The videos offer a step-by-step tutorial for group members that include insight into the value of increasing followers, the purpose of hashtags and how to successfully share a message in 140 characters or less. Ink from Chase Card Services launched its enhanced rewards program for the Ink Plus credit card, allowing cardholders to accumulate customized points quicker for their small business, featuring five points per dollar spent at office supply stores and on cellular phone, landline, Internet and cable TV services; two points per dollar spent at gas stations and hotels, and one point on all other spending. The “Ink Plus” program lets cardholders earn five points per dollar on the first $50,000 in annual spend at office supply stores and on cellular phone, landline, Internet and cable TV services and two points per dollar on the first $50,000 in annual spend at gas stations and on hotel accommodations when purchased directly with the hotel. Also, Ink cardholders can earn one point per dollar on all other card purchases, with no limits. Given points don’t expire, they enjoy a 1:1 points transfer to leading airline and hotel loyalty programs and 20% off airfare, hotels, car rentals and cruises when they redeem for travel through the ‘Ultimate Rewards’ rewards program.
Isis mobile commerce joint venture created by AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless announced Wayne, a GE Energy Business, and Gilbarco Veeder-Root will provide integrated support for the Isis “SmartTap” mobile commerce app. Allowing consumers to quickly and efficiently pay, present loyalty cards and redeem offers with a single tap of their Isis Ready phones at the gas pump, Gilbarco Veeder-Root’s modular payment architecture will be equipped to accept SmartTap, factory-installed fuel dispensers and retrofitted fuel dispensers currently installed at convenience stores across the country.
Fiserv financial services technology solutions announced TD Bank will implement its “CheckFree RXP” electronic bill payment. The “CheckFree RXP” will provide TD Bank customers more control over their bill payment tasks and will enable them to receive e-bills from more than 400 national and local companies directly within their online banking service. It allows TD Bank customers access to Fiserv electronic billing and payment for next business day delivery of most payments and bill payment for tens of millions of consumers and is offered by 3,800 financial institutions, a number that increases each month.
ROAM Data mcommerce platform introduced its software developer’s kit to simplify integration of card-present mobile payments into applications for iPhones, iPads and Android devices. ROAM’s developer kit supports mobile commerce-based apps development for a range of applications including invoicing, accounting, and retail point-of-sale. The kit includes Roam Card Swipers for development and testing; the ROAMpay Swipe application programming interface for card swiper; the ROAMpay API for ROAM commerce platform; the ROAMpay API for boarding merchants on the ROAM commerce platform; and a Test Account to develop and test applications.
The Smart Card Alliance announced the formation of the EMV Migration Forum, an independent cross-industry organization. This will support the alignment of the EMV implementation steps required for global payment networks, regional payment networks, issuers, processors, merchants, and consumers to successfully move from magnetic stripe technology to secure EMV contact and contactless technology in the United States. The EMV Migration Forum will have a separate membership and be open to representatives from financial card issuers, payments processors, merchants, acquirers, payment networks, industry suppliers and other constituent groups including payments industry associations to ensure that all stakeholders ins intakeholders in the payment industry are represented.
NCR Corporation is set to showcase a variety of Software as a Service (SaaS) and hardware solutions at the RetailNOW 2012 show in Las Vegas, highlighting how channel partners can offer both SaaS and hardware solutions in a way that allows retail and hospitality end users to better serve their customers. Kaiku Finance launched its KAIKU Visa Prepaid Card reloadable prepaid debit card. The KAIKU Card empowers consumers to more effectively manage their money, offering affordability, transparency, access, convenience and mobility. For it, cardholder funds are FDIC insured; there is no activation fee; cardholders can load funds by cash, from a credit card, from a bank account, by transfer from another KAIKU Card; and is valid wherever Visa is accepted. It also features free apps for iPhone, Android and Blackberry; free card-to-card, bank-to-card and Paypal-to-card transfers; and charges no inactivity fee. KAIKU estimates cardholders will save an average of $65 – $225 annually compared to similar usage with traditional reloadable prepaid debit cards.
The Lemon mobile wallet platform made available the Lemon Wallet on Android and launched its Lemon for Business. The Lemon Wallet customers already scanned over a half million cards to digitize and back-up their wallet data, stored behind Lemon’s proprietary government-caliber security technology. The Lemon Wallet easy-to-use tool for digitizing and backing up all of the items traditionally carried in a physical wallet and is more secure than the physical wallet itself. Android users are now able to download the App from Google Play for any Android 4.0 or higher smartphone to snap a photo of each item in their wallet, including debit, credit, loyalty healthcare and ID cards, as well as receipts, tickets and coupons.
