The commercial card unit of Paymentech, the nation’s largest acquirer and processor of credit card transactions, has signed a colocation agreement with FirstWorld, a provider of outsourced data center and high-speed Internet solutions for small and medium-sized businesses. The terms of the agreement call for Paymentech to colocate the unit’s Electronic Payment Solutions and its Internet-based reporting and administration platform, PaymentNet, in FirstWorld’s Salt Lake City Internet Data Center.
Leveraging the robust infrastructure and 24X7 security of FirstWorld’s IDC, Paymentech’s commercial card business is positioned to meet its growing volume of clients with the secure and scalable PaymentNet platform. Currently, Paymentech is processing over 400,000 purchasing, corporate and business card transactions a day, which necessitates not only a scalable network, but also the security and redundancy that businesses demand when engaging in online administration and reporting of credit card transaction activity. To meet those needs for Paymentech and its corporate clients, FirstWorld developed a customized solution that offers stringent security guidelines and a high availability uptime system.
“We were the first commercial card issuer to develop a total Internet reporting and administration platform that allows clients to see transaction data real time and to import information as needed into internal accounting systems,” said Charlie DelosSantos, chief technology officer for Paymentech’s commercial card unit. “Our traffic has increased tremendously and we needed the secure and expandable capabilities offered by FirstWorld.”
“Paymentech’s commercial card group has taken the purchasing and corporate card business into the Internet economy with its PaymentNet(TM) reporting system,” said David Gandini, COO of FirstWorld. “The rapid increase in its business required a secure and scalable solution that allows for the continued growth of e-procurement in this area. We are pleased that we can provide the platforms and infrastructure to Paymentech’s mission critical operations and needs.”
