Cardtronics, the nation’s largest independent owner/operator of ATMs has reinforced its leadership position in the industry by acquiring 1,200 ATMs and related placement agreements from Diebold, Incorporated. With the addition of this part of Diebold’s ATM portfolio, Cardtronics’ nationwide network now includes more than 9,000 owned and/or managed ATMs, many of which are located in retail outlets of prominent companies such as Amerada Hess, ConocoPhillips, Sunoco and Circle K Stores, Inc. The acquisition brings several new corporate accounts to Cardtronics, including Barnes & Noble College Bookstores, ExxonMobil, Rite Aid and Uni-Mart. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
“The ATM portfolio purchased from Diebold brings additional major corporate clients with high-performing ATMs to Cardtronics,” said Brian Archer, Executive Vice President of Marketing. “This is Cardtronics’ second major acquisition, having acquired a substantial ATM portfolio from McLane FSP last year, and positions Cardtronics for future additional growth both internally and through acquisitions.”
“Diebold’s portfolio diversifies and strengthens our existing nationwide coverage,” said Ralph Clinard, President and CEO of Cardtronics. “We also believe that the transaction solidifies our relationship with Diebold, further validates our business model, and creates synergies resulting from our new scale and scope that will allow us to offer additional value to our retail client base.”
