In 1848, the first credit union was founded upon the principles of fiscal responsibility and serving the needs of the community. More than 150 years later, this community spirit remains a major component of the credit union industry. A prime example is today’s announcement that CO-OP Network, the nation’s largest credit union ATM network, is making an underwriting gift of $500,000 to Children’s Miracle Network for the 2002-2003 fund raising year. The donation to Children’s Miracle Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for children’s hospitals, will help to ensure that money raised at the local level stays at the local level.
“The donation by CO-OP Network ranks as one of the largest in underwriting support for the 2002-2003 fund raising campaign,” said Riley Smith, director of credit union development for Children’s Miracle Network. “Their continued support enables us to help children’s hospitals provide state-of-the-art care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”
Ontario, Calif.-based CO-OP Network provides 15,000 surcharge-free ATMs to its member credit unions across the nation. Already, the organization maintains a long-term relationship with Children’s Miracle Network by donating a set amount for each transaction performed at a CO-OP Network ATM, raising more than $180,000 in 2001. This contribution, raised through the company’s ATM transaction program, directly benefits the 170 Children’s Miracle Network hospitals throughout North America.
“As non-profit institutions, credit unions have always been focused on serving the needs of the community,” said Robert Rose, CEO and President of CO-OP Network. “Through expanding our existing relationship with Children’s Miracle Network, we aim to extend this tradition of service to the communities of our member credit unions. Hopefully, this expanded support will help Children’s Miracle Network make an even greater difference in the lives of hospitalized children throughout North America.”
CO-OP Network will be recognized for their generosity during the annual Children’s Miracle Network Celebration broadcast from Walt Disney World, May 30, 31 and June 1 on a syndicated network of 200 television stations.
