Genpass Inc., the second largest network ATM driver and processor in the U.S., announced it has hired William G. Raymond as executive vice president.
Raymond has been the senior manager of Bank of America’s 14,000 ATM network since 1998 and has eighteen years in the EFT and retail banking industries, the last nine of them at Bank of America (NYSE:BAC).
Raymond, a graduate of Stanford University and the University of Washington Graduate School of Business, began his banking career in 1984 as a commercial lender with Seafirst Bank in Washington. Eventually, he managed Seafirst’s Delivery Systems Group, including their ATM, debit card, and acquisition and integration activities for the retail bank.
At Seafirst, Raymond pioneered supermarket branching, off-premise ATM deployment and the use of ATMs to dispense stamps, transit passes and other value-added services.
In 1993, Raymond joined Bank of America where he was responsible for delivery system management in Bank of America’s 10-state retail network and for the integration of systems and operations of acquired banks and thrifts. In 1994, Raymond was asked to take over Bank of America’s electronic banking system, including ATM, debit card and shared network activities on a national basis.
Following the merger of Bank of America and NationsBank in 1998, Raymond assumed responsibility for strategy, product management and deployment across Bank of America’s nationwide network of 14,000 ATMs.
Under Raymond’s leadership, Bank of America initiated the nation’s largest check card program and introduced the first Platinum Check Card. He also led the industry in deploying Windows-based ATMs, talking ATM technology, ATM advertising, targeted cross-sale, and ATM personalization capabilities.
During his tenure at Bank of America, Raymond also served on the board of directors of Star System, Plus, Cash Station and Pulse ATM and POS networks.
At Genpass, Raymond will report directly to Genpass president and CEO Bipin C. Shah. Raymond has assumed responsibility for acquisitions of ATM networks and for large bank contracts. Raymond’s vast experience in managing large ATM networks and ATM deployments will guide Genpass in these areas.
Raymond will also guide Genpass in the development of products and services for new card programs and for EFT products. In this capacity, Raymond will work closely with Genpass senior managers Douglas D. Anderson, president of Genpass ATM Solutions, Peter Davidson, president of Genpass Card Solutions, and Gary T. Staub, chief marketing officer.
Raymond had this to say about his move to join Genpass: “Genpass is already a leader in ATM and debit services. But we are poised to deliver even greater value to our customers. Genpass has assembled the most experienced management team in the EFT industry. And with the opening of our new, state-of-the-art data center in Irving, Texas, we have the most advanced, end-to-end ATM services offering in the United States. All of us at Genpass are excited about the opportunity to assist ATM owners in navigating the challenges of the current marketplace. Having been on the bank side of the ATM business for many years, I understand what it takes to deliver the service quality that bank customers expect. Genpass is uniquely positioned to meet those demanding standards.”
Shah commented this way on Raymond’s arrival: “Bill adds the experience of the retail side of EFT to our mix. He understands the needs of large deployers and can direct our efforts to design products that will bring new services and new approaches to them. He also understands the retail customer and the kind of products and customer service that builds retention and loyalty for our Genpass customers. We expect to harness these talents quickly to show the marketplace the advantages that Genpass can offer.”
Raymond will be based in the San Francisco area and can be reached at 707-888-2811.
