A new report shows that check cashing business generates approximately $2.6 billion annually in revenue. Boston-based Aite Group estimates that consumers and small businesses cash $300 billion in checks per year. The “Check Cashing Technologies: Market Overview and Vendor Comparison” report shows that check cashers bring in about $1.5 billion in revenues while banks produce $200 million in check cashing revenue. Aite found that grocery stores generate $600 million in check cashing revenue and convenience stores around $300 million. The study says check cashing remains a relatively complex product to distribute.
