Triton Standard was recently recognized with the “Best Contribution to the Industry” award by the ATM Industry Association (ATMIA), an independent trade association dedicated to promoting the ATM industry. Presented to Triton during the 2007 ATMIA East Conference, Feb. 20-23, 2007 in Orlando, FL, the award is presented annually to an organization that demonstrates a long-term positive influence on improving the industry.
In 2004, Triton, the largest provider of off-premise ATMs and ATM management software in North America, opened the Triton Standard message format free of charge to ATM manufacturers, including competitors. Triton Standard is the most widely used and emulated retail ATM message format in the industry.
“On the surface, opening Triton Standard to competitors may seem an unusual move,” said Bill Jackson, Triton’s Vice President of Research and Development. “However by offering Triton Standard at no charge, it benefits the industry as a whole and benefits Triton through increased brand recognition and enhanced reputation as an innovator and worldwide retail ATM leader. In fact, Triton has received requests for Triton Standard from every leading manufacturer of ATMs in the world.”
This revolutionary step by Triton has had a substantial impact on the ATM industry. Everyone benefits: Triton, manufacturers, processors, end users such as convenience store owners and other retailers, and, ultimately and most importantly, the consumer.
For manufacturers and processors, the release of Triton Standard has reduced duplication of efforts and costs. Processors such as ACI, eFunds and others are now able to write fewer interfaces and have fewer versions to support which has led to faster implementations and lower overall costs. For merchants, the use of a common message format across multiple vendor lines streamlines management of their ATM estate. And, reduced duplication of effort translates into more choices and more convenience at a lower cost for consumers.
