Gilbarco Inc. has certified an electronic funds payment service from National Payment Card, LLC of Boca Raton, FL for use with the Gilbarco Passport® point of sale system. National Payment Card, LLC is an electronic funds payment service bureau that interfaces with point of sale systems. The National Payment Card service enables consumers to associate their driver’s license or existing membership card with a bank account so it initiates payment at the pump or inside the store through the Federal Automated Clearing House (ACH) system. ACH transactions cost the retailer significantly less to process than credit card networks. Retailers can pass along the savings in processing fees to the consumer in the form of discounted fuel.
The Passport interface to the electronic funds payment service from National Payment Card enables funds to come directly from the consumer’s bank account, removing middlemen in the credit card and debit card networks altogether.
“Credit card fees continue to be a significant challenge for retailers,” said Kirsten Paust, Gilbarco’s vice president of global retail systems. “This solution provides a less expensive means of accepting payment from customers, and provides enhanced incentives to motivate customer adoption. This is exactly what the industry needs to help combat the current fee issues.”
“We have worked closely with NPC in certifying the system. A key part of our strategy with Passport is to continue to aggressively build the programs, applications, and solutions that customers can select from outstanding providers like NPC,” Paust added. “You will see many more announcements as we continue to build Passport’s list of certified integration partners.”
“When retailers with Gilbarco Passport pass along part of the savings to consumers, they create a win/win situation,” said Danny Portal, vice president and chief technical officer at National Payment Card. “Recent studies strongly confirm that consumers want the fuel discounts so they become loyal to the retailer, visit more often and make additional purchases with the savings. We also see an outpouring of protest all the way up to Congress about high processing fees, so our service is truly beneficial to both the retailer and consumer.”
Passport point of sale with the interface to the electronic funds payment service from National Payment Card will be on exhibit at the NACStech show, Gilbarco Veeder-Root booth 143, at Nashville’s Gaylord Opryland Hotel April 30 – May 2.
