Precidia Technologies Inc., a
global leader in the design and manufacture of Internet Protocol (IP)
access devices, and Staunch Corporation, a leading provider of Digital
Video Surveillance technology and IT services to the Convenience
Store/Petroleum Industry, announced today that it has provided an IP
connectivity solution to Quarles Petroleum’s remote fueling sites,
migrating Gasboyââ fuel dispensers with cardlock systems and onsite video
surveillance cameras to an IP network for faster transaction
authorization, enhanced security and better remote management.
Quarles Petroleum required a solution that would deliver reliable,
centrally managed video surveillance over their high-speed wide area
network (WAN) for its 80 unmanned remote fueling sites, while also
speeding the transaction time for drivers using the cardlock system.
Turning to Staunch, they found the solution in broadband connectivity
via the POSLynx220, developed by Precidia. The POSLynx220 multiport
payment router features both dial and serial ports, delivering secure
broadband connectivity for the onsite video surveillance system and the
cardlock system with only one device.
A key issue at remote fueling sites, fuel card security is improved
using the POSLynx220. By integrating the Gasboyââ fuel dispenser and
onsite video surveillance system on the WAN, Quarles can search and view
video based on transaction information. This transaction information is
displayed with the video and has proven to be instrumental in helping
Quarles’ customers identify misuse of their fuel cards.
“We knew the potential of broadband for cost savings and speed, but
needed a transition strategy to get us there”, said Greg Natvig, Fuel
Network C.O.O. of Quarles Petroleum. “The Staunch/Precidia solution
helped us eliminate dedicated dial lines, while speeding transaction
authorization from 12 seconds to under 2. With our video surveillance
cameras also linked into the network, monitoring these unmanned sites
has become more reliable. We have seen significant cost savings and
operational efficiencies by converging multiple existing systems onto a
common IP network, not to mention improved service to our customers”.
By using the POSLynx220, Staunch was able to build a High Speed WAN that
connects directly to their credit processing center. “In the past, this
was something that could only be achieved by using a third party
âÃÂmiddleman’ to process a store’s transactions”, said Staunch President
Stephen A. Lary. “Cutting the middleman out will reduce processing fees
for Quarles for years to come, while helping them to meet operational
goals such as customer service and security”.
Precidia president Deepak Wanner believes the POSLynx220 delivers a
host of possibilities for petroleum and convenience store operators,
including the management capabilities of NetVuââ, the network
configuration manager onboard the POSLynx220. “NetVu takes the
simplicity and manageability of network connectivity a step further,
facilitating remote configuration, PCI compliance management, alerts and
transaction/network reporting”, said Mr. Wanner. “Quarles has
successfully leveraged payment routing technology to maximize existing
systems for faster transactions and improved device management”.
The POSLynx220 with NetVu is ideal for convenience store/petroleum
applications. In convenience stores, the POSLynx220 can connect multiple
dial and serial devices, such as ATMs, Rubyââ terminals, fuel tank
monitors and check readers, to a broadband network with security.
Enhancing the value for convenience store operators, this solution is
PCI compliant, with features such as automatic dial back-up in case of
