Three district councils in Nancy – the Greater Nancy Authority, the
Pompey Basin District Council, and the Suburban Transport Organization –
joined together to adopt a system to serve each of their public transit
networks. The councils made a joint decision to adopt the ACS ATLAS^®
contactless ticketing system to simplify travel on public transport
for the area’s 350,000 inhabitants. ATLAS^ will enable each authority to
issue tickets that are valid across the urban area’s public transport
networks. As part of the contract, ACS will replace the current magnetic
equipment with combined magnetic and contactless ticketing equipment.
“In choosing ATLAS, the Nancy urban area will benefit from ACS’
expertise that proved successful on other major networks,” said Eric
Jean, ACS France Managing Director, Fare Collection. “ACS is
demonstrating its skills as a system designer and integrator by
deploying another complete contactless ticketing solution.”
Several major French cities, such as Lyons, Toulouse, and Marseilles,
have already adopted ATLAS to create vast multimodal, multioperator,
intercommunal public transport areas.
With ATLAS, each of the three authorities in the Nancy urban area will
have access to a modular, open, centralized system. They will share
information such as passenger flows, while retaining their own
management area. ATLAS^ is designed to be interoperable and could be
extended to a larger area at any time.
*Compact console and integrated** GPS*
Passengers will soon see the new equipment being fitted, compatible with
both the new ticketing system and traditional magnetic tickets. ACS will
roll out the associated sales infrastructure, with automatic ticket
vending machines and point-of-sale terminals. More than 800 terminals
will be installed on the Nancy tramway and in the approximately 300
buses serving the urban area. Drivers will benefit from a range of
easy-to-use features such as dashboards that include the ACS Proxibus®
CPE 020 compact console, which can be used both as a ticketing console
and an operation-aid system. The new console also includes an integrated
Global Positioning System.
