Telit Wireless Solutions, Inc., the
U.S.-based mobile technology arm of Telit Communications,
announced today that USA Technologies, Inc., a leader in
providing the most secure, wireless and networked transaction solutions
to the vending and unattended point-of-sale (POS) industries, selected
Telitâs GC864-QUAD module to enable cellular communication in the
companyâs ePort® EDGE Cashless Payment System. The ePort EDGE will make
its International CTIA Wireless debut at Telitâs booth #163.
The USA Technologies ePort EDGE device enables unattended POS terminals
such as vending machines, washers and dryers and self-service car wash
stations to accept credit, debit and other forms of cashless payment.
The ePort also gives operators the ability to remotely monitor and
manage machine performance for maximum efficiency while offering
consumers greater convenience.
âOur customers wanted a cashless payment terminal that responds to their
needs at the most affordable price, and Telitâs GC864-QUAD enabled us to
do just that. In addition to its compact form factor, the GC864-QUAD is
multi-functional, so transaction processing does not need to slow down
or stop when updates or downloads are performed,â said Ron Fridman, Vice
President, Technology and Product Development of USA Technologies, Inc.
âWe are delighted with the high quality of the Telit product as well as
the outstanding service and support that the company is providing.â
The ePort EDGE cashless payment device is quickly gaining broad
acceptance in traditionally cash-based vending markets because of its
low cost advantage, one-piece design and advanced product features. The
Telit GC864-QUAD makes much of this possible through an integrated
TCP/IP protocol stack and serial multiplexer functionality, which offers
dual channels of communication and enables the ePort EDGE to perform
various tasks simultaneously, including transaction processing, data
downloads, system maintenance and firmware-over-the-air (FOTA) updates.
Because the integrated SIM connector is part of the Telit module, it
takes up less circuit board space, enabling a compact and economical
design that is easy to install.
âConsumer reliance on cash has taken a back seat to the convenience and
global acceptance of plastic and electronic forms of payment, making POS
a rapidly-growing M2M market vertical,â said Michael Ueland, Vice
President& General Manager of Telit Wireless Solutions â North America.
âAs a globally recognized leader in cashless POS solutions, USA
Technologies serves many of the worldâs strongest brands and is a
valuable partner in this rapidly evolving market. USA Technologies has
earned a reputation for developing technology that delivers customer
value through innovation, and we are excited that our technology is
contributing towards the quality of the companyâs cashless product line.â
Telit is one of the top three global providers of M2M technology. The
companyâs GC864-QUAD is one of the smallest GSM/GPRS quad-band modules
with industrial connectors on the market, and is available with an
optional integrated SIM holder on the board. All Telit modules support
Over-the-Air firmware update by means of Premium FOTA Management.
Additionally, since Telit owns and controls the firmware within its
modules, any changes to underlying chipsets will have minimal impact on
customersâ application designs. For more information about the
