After having peaked in 3Q/09 at 10.14%, Citibank is reporting its card division chargeoffs continued its downward descent in 3Q/11, reaching 5.58% to its lowest percentage in years. Accordingly, chargeoffs, 30-89 day delinquencies and 90+ day delinquencies have all consistently dropped every single month-over-month since 1Q/10. With this, chargeoffs hit 8.69% in 3Q/10, 30+ day delinquencies hit 2.86%, 2.29% and 1.70% in 3Q/09, 3Q/10 and 3Q/11, respectively, while 90+ delinquencies hit 2.74%, 2.33% and 1.56%. Reports are indicating customers are getting lazier with their payments as we move further from the worst of the recession. Whether or not Citibank customers are adapting this more lax approach to their credit card payments, however, remains to be seen.
