October U.S. consumer bankruptcy filings totaled 106,255 nationwide, down 19.6% from the 132,173 total consumer filings recorded in the year ago period. This, according to the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI), shows consumer filings also represented a 2% decrease from the 108,517 filings in September. Meanwhile, Chapter 13 filings were up slightly from the year ago period, having made up 31.5% of all consumer cases in October.
