Visa and Intel Ink Alliance at m-World Congress

Visa and Intel Corporation forged a strategic agreement to develop mobile commerce solutions, having outlined plans to collaborate to ensure consumers enjoy a consistent, streamlined, secure mobile commerce experience across Intel “Atom”-based smartphones and tablets. With this, Visa has certified Intel’s Smartphone Reference Device powered by the Intel “Atom” processor Z2460 for use with Visa payWave, Visa’s mobile payment technology that enables consumers to make fast and secure payments at retail locations by simply waving their mobile phone in front of a payment terminal. The Intel Smartphone Reference Device will host the Visa payWave payment application and features NFC technology. Now smartphones based on the Intel Smartphone Reference Device handset can be enabled to connect to Visa Inc.’s mobile provisioning service providing financial institutions and mobile operators the means to securely download Visa payment account information and the Visa payWave application OTA to a secure chip on an NFC-equipped smartphone.

Chase Implements Gemalto mPayment Solution

Gemalto digital security is to provide its Trusted Service Management (TSM) solution on the Chase mpayments platform. Gemalto’s TSM will provision and manage the credit and debit card data of Chase customers, validating authenticity and supporting information delivery over the air. The Isis™ mobile wallet, developed through a joint venture between AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, will be the first to benefit from this partnership. For this, Gemalto will perform issuance, personalization and lifecycle management while Chase will be able to load a digital version of a customer’s payment card into the customer’s mobile wallet in real-time, allowing the end user to conduct NFC payments.

Oberthur to Acquire MoreMagic mMoney Solutions

Oberthur Technologies entered into exclusive negotiations to acquire MoreMagic Solutions mobile financial services solutions provider. Oberthur Technologies has actively engaged in both NFC and Mobile Money solutions, and recently won a key reference in Czech Republic in technological partnership with MoreMagic. The technological capabilities of Oberthur Technologies and MoreMagic will create a comprehensive mobile money services suite including secured end-to-end payment and money transfer services helping mobile operators and financial institutions to offer innovative financial services in mobility such as proximity, remote payment and mobile banking.

eBay Inks New Partnerships and Innovations

eBay mobile commerce with its suite of eBay and PayPal mobile applications kicked off Mobile World Congress with announcements of a new partnership with major carrier; strategic integrations with merchants such as Yotel and; and mobile app updates that evolve mobile commerce selling and shopping experiences for consumers. The announcements underscore eBay’s commitment to leading mobile commerce innovation and building out a robust mobile commerce ecosystem with carriers, merchants and consumers worldwide. In 2011, eBay mobile commerce generated $5 billion in retail volume, and PayPal mobile generated $4 billion in payment volume. eBay’s mobile apps have been downloaded more than 70 million times. In 2012, eBay expects to do $8 billion in mobile commerce retail volume, and PayPal expects to process $7 billion in mobile payment volume.

Gemalto and Sony Implement NFC agreement

Gemalto Digital Security and Sony established an agreement to provide FeliCa / NFC solutions globally. Gemalto will incorporate FeliCa software technology into its UpTeq NFC SIM product lineup starting in 2012, offering mobile operators and service providers a more comprehensive range of mobile NFC services globally. The addition of FeliCa makes Gemalto’s UpTeq NFC SIM the secure element that can embed the world’s broadest set of applications, and with the highest level of privacy. Gemalto will expand its UICC solutions with FeliCa technology to complement its existing NFC applications portfolio. UpTeq NFC SIM enables mobile operators to securely install additional applications from new service providers over time, even after issuance to end users.

B+S Card Dispatches VeriFone to Manage Payment System

VeriFone Systems and B+S Card Service GmbH announced that B+S has implemented PAYware TCS, a solution component of VeriFone’s PAYMEDIA Universal Acceptance Platform (UAP), which enables central management of applications on payment acceptance systems at merchant locations. PAYware TCS enables network service providers to remotely manage payment functions at merchant locations equipped with VeriFone’s Artema Hybrid and H5000 payment acceptance solutions, for an efficient process to deploy new applications and update existing applications. PAYware TCS allows multinational retailers to harmonize their payment solution in multiple countries in Europe and to be SEPA ready. PAYware TCS is generally available in Germany as a managed service from VeriFone.
