Square launched its software partner platform, collaborating with third parties to build new applications that complement Square’s suite of business services. The launch extends Works with Square, a program launched earlier this year to connect customers with more tools for their businesses. Vodafone and Visa launched the Vodafone Wallet and Visa SmartPass service. The agreements increase the reach of V.me by Visa and as a result, Visa expects many more retailers to have access to V.me and be capable of processing transactions by the end of 2014. SmartPass is the first service to offer consumers in the Netherlands the chance to make secure, easy contactless payments using their mobile phone. The service will work on any contactless payment terminal in Europe that displays the V PAY logo. Users will also be able to transfer money to each other’s SmartPass accounts using the service. The Vodafone SmartPass payment service has been developed with Visa and is based on a prepaid Visa solution. For transactions under €25, customers can pay easily and conveniently by simply touching their mobile phone to a contactless terminal showing the V PAY logo. For transactions over €25 the customer will be invited to enter a passcode to verify their purchase.
Spire Payments announced the acquisition of Altius Plus, recognised experts in the development of payment applications, terminal management systems, loyalty schemes, ticketing solutions and client server-based architectures within the payments industry. Altius Plus will become Spire Payments Eastern Europe LCC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Spire Payments and will play a pivotal role within the business to cement its position as the third largest PoS vendor in Europe. Altius Plus was founded in 2006 by payment industry experts who had accumulated over a decade’s worth of experience working as part of the Hypercom Corporation team in CEE.
Sopra Banking Software implemented an electronic money platform at Transactis French electronic transaction hub – for Société Générale, La Banque Postale and Crédit du Nord.
This fully operational platform uses Sopra Banking Cards-Issuer for contract and support management, as well as associated payment and withdrawal activities. A common electronic money platform for Société Général and La Banque Postale, allowed a common transaction system. At the end of 2012, Transactis was already managing two billion transactions per year for both banks. Sopra Banking Cards-Issuer offers an open, flexible architecture and comprises a number of pooled services that benefit all of its customers. These services include a multitude of visuals, a reduction on card production delays, mobile payments, payments without contract and post-personalization.
