Cash transactions (CTX) for Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards in the U.S. grew by 2.7% year-on-year (Y/Y) in the fourth quarter. Cash transactions volume will likely hit 1.21 billion in the first quarter, according to forecaster RAM Research.
In the fourth quarter U.S. cash transactions for Visa and MasterCard came in at 1.24 billion, compared to 1.28 billion the prior quarter and 1.21 billion in the year ago quarter. The average cash transaction for credit and debit combined is $138.01.
Visa cash transactions are growing at a Y/Y rate of 2.1%, compared to MasterCard’s 4.5%.
Visa posted 914 million in U.S. cash transactions for Q4/14, compared to 950 million in Q3/14 and 875 million in Q4/13. Visa’s average cash transaction for credit and debit combined is $132.39.
MasterCard posted 325 million in U.S. cash transactions for Q4/14, compared to 334 million in Q3/14 and 311 million in Q4/13. MasterCard’s average cash transaction for credit and debit combined is $153.85.
RAM Research projects Visa will log 894 million U.S. cash transactions and MasterCard will log 320 million U.S. cash transactions in the first quarter.
