On a non-currency adjusted basis, Purchase Dollar Volume (PDV) in Canada for Visa and MasterCard payment cards rose 11.9% Year-on-Year (YOY) in Q4. On an adjusted currency basis Visa was up 7.9% YOY and MasterCard grew 12.6% YOY in Q4/14.
According to CardData, Visa (VS) and MasterCard (MC) racked up US$94 billion in Canadian PDV for Q4/14, compared to US$93 billion on 3Q14 and US$84 billion for 4Q/13.
Visa reported US$61 billion in Q4/14 PDV, compared to US$61 billion on 3Q14 and US$62 billion for 4Q/13. On a local currency basis Visa Canada was up 7.9% YOY.
MasterCard reported US$33 billion in Q4/14 PDV, compared to US$32 billion on 3Q14 and US$32 billion for 4Q/13. On a local currency basis Visa Canada was up 12.6% YOY.
Visa has an estimated 48 million Cards-in-Force (CIF) in Canada at EOY 2014 and MasterCard has 53 million CIF.
RAM Research projects Visa and MasterCard Canadian PDV will slow to an 8.1% YOY rate on a local currency basis in the first quarter.
