Visa and MasterCard control 98% of the U.S. debit and bank-issued prepaid card market and it continues to grow faster than credit cards by 210 basis points (bps). RAM Research projects U.S. debit and prepaid Gross Dollar Volume (GDV) will grow from $2.6 trillion this year to $3.5 trillion for 2019.
MC had 176 million debit card accounts and VS had an estimated 362 million debit card accounts in the U.S., according to CardData.
V+M debit card cash advance volume was $154 billion, compared to $152 billion in the prior quarter.
V+M debit card gross transaction volume was 13,262 million, compared to 13,269 in the prior quarter.
V+M debit card purchase transaction volume was 12,002 million, compared to 13,269 million in the prior quarter.
V+M debit card cash transaction volume was 1260 million, compared to 1198 million in the prior quarter.
V+M debit cards-in-force was 621 million, compared to 615 million in the prior quarter.
