The largest payment switch in Rwanda, RSwitch, and UnionPay International have inked a deal for ATMs of all the member banks of RSwitch to accept UnionPay cards by the end of this year.
This move will see the ATM acceptance of UnionPay cards in Rwanda to reach about 50%, providing secure, convenient and preferential payment services to UnionPay cardholders.
In recent years, Chinese enterprises have been offering intensive support to its infrastructure construction and information communication. As the ATMs of the 7 member banks of RSwitch enable UnionPay card acceptance, about 50% of the ATMs in Rwanda will allow cash withdrawal with UnionPay cards. The merchants under RSwitch will also accept UnionPay cards in the near future. Now in Rwanda, over 50% of the merchants accept UnionPay cards.
Currently, UnionPay cards are accepted in 45 countries and regions in Africa, with around 50% of the ATMs in South Africa and over 30% of the merchants in Tanzania accepting UnionPay cards. Different types of UnionPay cards including debit card, prepaid card and commercial card issued in Africa. All these moves further enhance the capability of UnionPay in serving cardholders at home and abroad as an international network.
