Purchase dollar volume (PDV) for Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards (credit + debit) in the U.S. climbed 7.8% year-on-year (YOY) in Q1/15 reaching $1.1 trillion. RAM Research now predicts annual U.S. credit card PDV will top $4.1 trillion by 2019.
MasterCard posted a 7.1% YOY gain with first quarter PDV of $287 billion, compared to $298 billion for Q4/14 and $268 billion for Q1/14.
American Express posted an estimated 6.0% YOY gain with first quarter PDV of $163 billion, compared to $176 billion for Q4/14 and $154 billion for Q1/14. AmEx reports gross dollar volume (GDV) on a quarterly basis.
Discover reported a 2.7% YOY gain with first quarter PDV of $26.4 billion, compared to $30.9 billion for Q4/14 and $25.7 billion for Q1/14.
