Scandinavian Airlines will formally accept online ticket purchase of UnionPay cards before the end of the summer. It will join hands with many European airlines like Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Deutsche Lufthansa, Finnair, LOT Polish Airlines, and Ukraine International Airlines to accept UnionPay.
In the meantime, about 80 colleges and universities in the UK have accepted the cross-border online payment of tuitions via UnionPay cards and the transaction volume of such tuition payments via UnionPay cards has risen dramatically.
Now cardholders can buy online air tickets at Chinese websites of almost 10 mainstream airlines in Europe. The airports of departure include 12 cities, namely Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan, Xi’an, Hangzhou, Shenyang, Nanjing, Xiamen, Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and the destinations include 7 European cities as Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich, Helsinki, Warsaw and Kiev, basically covering the main aviation hubs in Western Europe, Northern Europe and Eastern Europe.
In addition, tourists who are fond of independent travel may purchase Eurorail through ticket online using UnionPay cards and arrange their route in advance in a better manner. The railway stations of all European cities are located at downtown areas. The trains there are comfortable and they arrive on time. Tourists can travel among different European cities with ease. UnionPay cards may be applied to purchase tickets online instead of opening an E-bank. Tourists can conduct rapid payment by verifying essential information as UnionPay card numbers and mobile numbers, which ensures rapid payment and secure transactions.
As more and more students choose to further study in Europe, more than 100 universities in England, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic and other European countries have realized cross-border payment of tuitions via UnionPay cards, covering the University of Manchester, Imperial College London, University of Southampton, University of Zurich. Payment accounts are debited directly in RMB, exempting the currency conversion fees that account for 1%-2% of the transactions. The corresponding amounts will be transferred to the relevant accounts instantly regardless of the outlets of banks and transfer companies.
The preference of UnionPay cardholders has changed from group tour to independent travel and local merchants accepting UnionPay cards become more diversified. At present, UnionPay cards are accepted by the major shopping malls, duty-free stores, and famous brand stores in Europe. Besides, the merchants in terms of catering, culture and entertainment accept UnionPay cards as well, including all the restaurants at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport as well as the bookstores and souvenir shops at Louvre, Versailles, Orsay Museum, Picasso Museum, Musee del Orangerie and other well-known museums, which enables tourists to experience unique cultural legacies of Europe.
About 38 countries and regions in Europe have opened UnionPay card business. England, Switzerland and Austria have realized the all coverage of ATMs. In Italy, UnionPay cards can be used in 80% of ATMs and about 30% of merchants. In the first half of this year, France has witnessed an increase of over 60,000 merchants accepting UnionPay cards. It is relatively convenient to use UnionPay cards in Avenue des Champs, Place Vendôme and other places frequently visited by tourists. In addition, the exclusive privileges and services of UnionPay cards are offered by quite a few airport duty-free stores, shopping malls and hotels distributed among France, Italy, Spain, Germany and other European countries favored by tourists.
