MasterCard has ankled Nandan Mer, who is currently Group Executive of Loyalty Solutions, based in London, to the role of Division President for Japan. The appointment will be effective as of September 1st.
In his new role, Nandan will have overall responsibility for MasterCard’s operations in Japan. He will focus on deepening business alliances with the company’s customer base in Japan to enhance MasterCard brand awareness and promote the growing usage and acceptance of MasterCard payment solutions in this key market.
Nandan joined MasterCard in 2010 as Group Executive, Global Consumer Credit. He took on the role in Loyalty Solutions three years ago, leading the expansion, differentiation and deployment of the company’s loyalty solutions to grow the business’ presence to 16 markets. Prior to joining MasterCard, Nandan held several banking roles leading consumer, commercial and investment banking businesses in South Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa.
Robert Luton, currently Division President for Japan, will remain in Japan to support the transition before relocating to MasterCard’s headquarters in Purchase, New York, to take on a new position as Group Head for Strategy and Competitive Intelligence, later this year. In his new role, Rob will be responsible for developing corporate, product and region strategies with leaders across the company, and integrating business strategy with competitive intelligence and other related functions.
Rob joined MasterCard as Division President for Japan in 2010, and has contributed significantly to the growth of the business in that market. His deep partnerships with key players resulted in the launch of several successful initiatives including prepaid card programs and Priceless Japan.
