UnionPay International and China Trust says all merchants of China Trust will now accept UnionPay cards.
In addition, the two sides will work together to provide more services such as UnionPay QuickPass and cross-border online payment to optimize the UnionPay card acceptance environment from online to offline in a comprehensive manner and to satisfy the diversified card-using demands of UnionPay cardholders.
At present, there are three categories of cardholders using UnionPay cards in Taiwan. The first category is business people traveling to Taiwan. Last year, the number of travelers to Taiwan exceeded 9.9 million and hit all-time high. In particular, travelers from the mainland, Hong Kong and Macao represented over 50%. The second category is Taiwan residents working in the mainland. They have various UnionPay cards issued by different banks in the mainland and use them to withdraw salary. The third category consists of mainland students studying in Taiwan. Apart from using UnionPay cards for cross-border online payment of tuition, they often use UnionPay cards to purchase or withdraw cash in the daily life.
To satisfy the payment demands of different cardholder groups, UnionPay International and “China Trust” have agreed to redouble efforts to optimize the local UnionPay card acceptance environment from online to offline, mainly including:
