Koper Bank and Intesa Sanpaolo Card jointly announced the acceptance of UnionPay cards at all ATMs subordinate to Koper Bank.
This is also the first time that UnionPay cards have realized ATM acceptance in Slovenia, and the card-using channels of UnionPay cards in the market are further enriched.
Intesa Sanpaolo Card provides payment processing for nine banks, subordinated to Intesa Sanpaolo Banking Group, in the Central and Eastern Europe. UnionPay International started comprehensive cooperation with Intesa Sanpaolo Card in Juanuary, 2015, to promote all banks subordinated to Intesa Sanpaolo Banking Group to accept UnionPay cards.
Besides launching ATM acceptance of UnionPay cards, Koper Bank will soon realize UnionPay cards acceptance at the local merchants, mainly shopping malls and supermarkets most frequented by tourists.
This is the first time China UnionPay have cooperated with a local institution in Slovenia.
Currently, UnionPay cards are accepted in 39 countries in Europe including Slovenia, and have generally realized full ATM acceptance in Great Britain, Switzerland and Australia.
The majority of the 16 countries in Central and Eastern Europe have also accepted UnionPay cards, covering the merchants frequently visited by tourists. UnionPay’s acceptance footprint in these countries is expanding rapidly.
Meanwhile, as a member of EMVCo, UnionPay is engaged in promoting the chip migration of European UnionPay card acceptance network so as to provide global cardholders with more secure payment experience.
