Cross-border transaction volume for Visa and MasterCard rose 9.6% year-on-year (YOY) in the third quarter. Visa’s cross-border currency adjusted (FX) gross dollar volume (GDV) increased 5.0% YOY, while MasterCard rose 15.7% YOY for FX GDV in the third quarter.
Cross-border volume refers to payments and cash volume where the issuing country is different from the merchant country.
For 3Q/15 Visa and MasterCard processed 30,644 cross-border transactions, compared to 30,036 in the prior quarter and 27,955 in the year ago quarter.
Visa reported its FX GDV rose 5% in 3Q/15, compared to 8% in 2Q/15 and 10% for YOY 3Q/14.
MasterCard reported its FX GDV rose 15.7% in 3Q/15, compared to 16.6% in 2Q/15 and 14.6% YOY for 3Q/14.
Visa’s total cross-border transactions increased 8.1% YOY in the third quarter to 18,365 compared to 18,024 in the prior quarter and 16,991 in the year ago quarter.
MasterCard’s total cross-border transactions increased 12.0% YOY in the third quarter to 12,279 compared to 12,012 in the prior quarter and 10,964 in the year ago quarter.
