UnionPay and ICBC have teamed to jointly launch UnionPay HCE mobile QuickPass in Macao. This is the first mobile credit card introduced in the market. Customers with UnionPay cards issued by ICBC Macao will be the first to enjoy this secure and convenient mobile payment service, being able to tap-and-go with their smartphones.
As UnionPay’s new mobile payment brand, mobile QuickPass enables offline contactless payment with mobile devices, wearables and UnionPay chip cards, and it also supports remote online payment. The mobile payment solutions of mobile QuickPass are compatible with a variety of mobile phone brands, including Huawei, MI, ZTE and Lenovo. Adopting dynamic key and tokenization, the authentic card number is not shown during mobile QuickPass transactions, and the transaction information is well kept within the network of the issuer and UnionPay, effectively assuring the payment security.
Now, more than 7 million POS terminals in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Canada support mobile QuickPass.
With mobile QuickPass acceptance expands, UnionPay International starts to launch the product in markets around the globe, so as to deliver secure and convenient mobile payment experience to its global customers. Previously, UnionPay International has cooperated with Korea’s KT Group and BCcard in launching UnionPay HCE mobile QuickPass in South Korea.
Cardholders with UnionPay cards issued by BCcard and its 19 member banks are able to tap-and-go with their QuickPass-enabled smartphones.
UnionPay HCE mobile QuickPass is the first mobile payment product introduced in Macao. This can be attributed to two factors:
First, 1.8 million UnionPay cards have been issued in Macao, meaning that each Macao resident has more than three UnionPay cards on average, and ICBC Macao is one major issuer.
Second, UnionPay is the most widely used international card brand in Macao in terms of contactless payment, and the majority of merchants accepting contactless payment support mobile QuickPass.
It is convenient for Macao residents to use UnionPay mobile QuickPass products issued by ICBC Macao.
Consumers can synch their NFC-enabled Android smartphone to their UnionPay credit card issued by ICBC Macao via the Bank’s app, “ICBC Mobile Banking”, and thus get a mobile QuickPass card. Then, they are able to tap-and-go with their smartphone at QuickPass terminals around the globe. ICBC Macao sets the daily mobile transaction cap at 5,000 MOP, and cardholders can lower the cap according to their own needs.
UnionPay’s acceptance network in Macao is quite extensive now. Almost all the local merchants and ATMs accept UnionPay cards, and mobile QuickPass is accepted at department stores, restaurants, and drug stores. Consumers in Macao can use UnionPay credit cards for online shopping, ticket booking, and tuition payment too.
