UnionPay has teamed with Air China and China Eastern Airlines in offering flight reward points for cardholders who use UnionPay cards overseas. All members of these two airlines, which cover about 55% outbound flight passengers, can participate in this activity.
As the number of China’s outbound tourists keeps growing, UnionPay International continues to enhance its cooperation with airlines.
On the one hand, it has cooperated with over 20 renowned overseas airlines in offering online ticket booking, in-flight shopping, and ticket discounts. This has expanded its card-using channels and has improved customers’ card-using experiences.
On the other, it provides UnionPay exclusive offers and services more accurately for China’s outbound tourists, through card-using publicity, joint marketing and card-using rewards.
It has also enabled overseas-issued about 10 domestic airlines, including CA, CEA, China Southern Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, to accept foreign-issued UnionPay cards.
From today to July 31, 2017, AC PhoenixMiles members and CEA Eastern Miles members can receive 4,000 PhoenixMiles points and 3,500 Eastern Miles points respectively for spending 5,000 to 10,000 yuan at merchants overseas (excluding Hong Kong and Macau) with domestic-issued UnionPay cards.
When spending over 10,000 yuan, they can get 10,000 PhoenixMiles points or 8,500 Eastern Miles points. Moreover, spending the aforementioned amount in US, Europe, Brazil or the South Pacific before October 30th, these members can get two-fold reward points: up to 20,000 PhoenixMiles points or 17,000 Eastern Miles points.
UnionPay has also cooperated with Spring Airlines, one of the first partners of UnionPay International in launching the “优计划” cross-border marketing service platform. Adopting mobile Internet technology, “优计划” successfully realizes, for the first time, location service, accurate promotion and instant discounts for cross-border consumption.
Cardholders can get the “优计划” QR code coupons via the UnionPay International app; they will also receive the coupons from four Hong Kong merchants when booking tickets via Spring Airlines’ official website and app.
Cardholders can enjoy the highest discount available at the merchants once presenting the QR code and paying with UnionPay card.
With an increasing number of UnionPay cards being issued overseas, UnionPay International is pushing major domestic airlines, online travel agencies and ticket booking websites to accept foreign-issued UnionPay cards, to facilitate overseas customers to book airline tickets. Now, overseas cardholders can purchase tickets on the official websites of several domestic airlines with UnionPay cards and make reservations as well as book tickets on ctrip.com, tuniu.com, and yiqifei.com.
