Purchase dollar volume (PDV) for the Major 4 networks (Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover) cards (credit + debit) in the U.S. climbed 6.5% year-on-year (YOY) in 1Q/17 hitting $1288 billion.
Visa led the way in the first quarter posting nearly a 12% YOY gain for U.S. PDV.
The Major 4 collectively posted $1288 billion in 1Q/17 U.S. PDV. compared to $1339 billion for 4Q/16, and $1209 billion for 1Q/16.
Visa, up 11.7% YOY, reported first quarter U.S. PDV of $775 billion, compared to a revised $804 billion for 4Q/16 and $694 billion for 1Q/16.
Mastercard posted an 2.5% YOY gain with first quarter U.S. PDV of $324 billion, compared to $333 billion for 4Q/16 and $316 billion for 1Q/16.
American Express posted a 6.3% YOY decline with first quarter estimated U.S. PDV of $160.4 billion, compared to $169.2 billion for 4Q/16 and $171.1 billion for 1Q/16.
Discover reported a 5.4% YOY gain with first quarter U.S. PDV of $29.1 billion, compared to $32.5 billion for 4Q/16 and $27.6 billion for 1Q/16.
