AFCU Scholarships

America First Credit Union recently donated $2,000 in scholarships to two students during the American Legion Utah Boys State summer youth camp at Weber State University. Recipients Tyler Evans from Duchesne High School and Carter Whitby from the Northern Utah Academy for Math, Engineering and Science (NUAMES) each received $1,000 in scholarship funds for use at a Utah college or university of their choice.

The ATM Industry Association has published a new study on recent global cash demand which shows that cash demand is increasing more than three times faster than worldwide economic growth rates. The study looked at year-on-year growth in currency in circulation in a range of 30 countries in advanced and developing economies over a 5 year period from 2009-2013.

Bitcoin payment processor Snapcard Inc. announced its partnership with São Paulo-based payment gateway AZPay, allowing hundreds of merchants worldwide to accept bitcoin payments and receive instant settlements in the digital currency. Merchants using AZPay’s payment gateway platform can now accept bitcoin with a simple click of a button.

Asia Pacific Execs

MasterCard announced the appointment of two Co-Presidents for the Asia/Pacific region – Ling Hai and Ari Sarker; as well the creation of two sub-regions – North East Asia and Australasia (NEAA) and South East Asia and South Asia (SEASA). The new sub-regions are in recognition of the growing importance of Asia/Pacific as a whole as it houses two of the region’s biggest markets – China and India – and reflects a more focused approach for these diverse markets.

MasterCard + QKR

For the first time in Latin America, MasterCard rolled out in Chile a digital payment and shopping technology present in world-class stadiums. Called Qkr!, the app is available for Android and iOS devices and was developed by the company internationally under the “quicker” concept to make online shopping faster. This technology provides customers with faster, more convenient and secure transactions at places such as sports stadiums so customers can skip lines altogether.
