MasterCard Sponsors Wearable World In-Flight Wearable Technology Hackathon

MasterCard will be a title sponsor and partner for the Wearable World In-Flight Wearable Technology Hackathon, which focuses on the connected traveler. The event will combine developers and hardware manufacturers in the wearable space taking place to create new technologies for trial on American Airlines. More than 200 developers will have a chance to work with American’s development team, hardware and API partners like MasterCard throughout the weekend to create the next killer wearable app/product. WHSmith Local needed an EPoS Solution for their franchisees that could manage product supplied by WHS retail and also manage all the other products and services that are offered by a typical news agent and convenience store. Welch ATM Acquires Thillens

Welch ATM announced the acquisition of the ATM portfolio of privately held Thillens. The ATMs purchased by Welch are part of Thillen’s financial institution sponsorship program entailing partnerships with credit unions and select employee group locations. Over seventy percent of the acquired ATMs are placed in Chicago, Illinois and align well with Welch’s strategic plans for this important geographic population center. Thillens will continue to provide cash delivery solutions after the transaction close. They will also play a key role in growing the Chicago ATM business post-closing.

AIB Merchant Services& China UnionPay Ink Card Acceptance

AIB Merchant Services became the first Irish merchant acquirer to add the Chinese card UnionPay to its list of available card schemes, which will provide Irish businesses and retailers the ability to accept transactions made using UnionPay debit and credit cards. Acceptance of the Chinese UnionPay card will enable Irish businesses to tap into the immense spending power of Chinese visitors to Ireland. Currently there are almost as many UnionPay cards globally in circulation as the two leading payment cards combined and UnionPay is projected to grow 51 per cent by 2017. AIBMS believes Irish merchants are poised to increase business from the Chinese tourist trade.

Mobile Payments Outlook

The value of global payments via mobile devices is expected to reach around $507 billion this year, a rise of nearly 40% year-on-year. A recent report from Hampshire-based Juniper Research says the opportunity for contactless mobile payments has been bolstered by contactless infrastructure deployments, with the majority of POS (Point of Sale) terminals now shipping with contactless.

Bluebird Gets Financial Management Tools

American Express this morning announced it will add free personal financial management tools to American Express Serve1 and Bluebird starting this summer. These tools help customers monitor their spending by automatically sorting transactions into categories such as bills, food, fun, shopping and transportation so they can easily track where their money is going. When customers log in to their Serve and Bluebird accounts, they will also be able to create budgets, set spending limits and alerts, as well as set and track financial goals.

Bank of America Merchant Services, the No. 1-rated electronic payments processor in the United States1, announced today the creation of the company’s new Canadian merchant services operation.
