ALELO has issued the latest EMV™ technology to support meal voucher programs in Brazil. The advanced ALELO card program utilises an EMV approved application implemented on MULTOS technology from Multos International. Multos International is working with the local Brazil card manufacturers to provide the products and support for personalization and issuance. ALELO has already begun card issuance, enabling payment services and meal benefits to their program customers.
NCR consumer transaction technologies announced 1900 Pizzeria is on its 20th anniversary year using NCR POS technology. With six stores in São Paulo, the pizzeria has relied on NCR to support its success and help manage all of its locations. 1900 Pizzeria is using NCR Colibri POS software to help the pizzeria with all of its business functions, from order to billing, management of tables, and cost reduction through various reports, in addition to expediting the service of the waiters. Additionally, 1900 Pizzeria uses NCR Colibri Back Office software for greater business insight and decision making including real-time management of stock, menu management, and a remote overview of all of its locations.
Vivo implemented Gemalto digital security to provide the TSM (Trusted Service Manager) platform, allowing it to offer m-payment products with NFC adding mobility, security and convenience for its users. With the solution in place and together with Gemalto’s UpTeq multi-tenant NFC SIM cards, Vivo will be able to expand its product portfolio for m-payments, offering services to mobile customers including contactless payments, transit ticketing and financial transactions between users of the solution. NCR announced Johnny Rockets, the international restaurant chain, known for all-American food and fun, will open its first two restaurants in Brazil with the support of NCR Aloha software running on NCR POS technology. Johnny Rockets selected the NCR POS solution because it is optimized for fast-paced food service operations. Additionally, Johnny Rockets is using NCR Hospitality technology such as NCR Aloha Insight and NCR Back Office for greater business insight and real-time decision making. The restaurant chain will also benefit from NCR Aloha Configuration Center’s above-store capabilities, allowing them to improve operational efficiency at the store-level.
The world’s first contactless smart cards compliant with the CIPURSE open security standard provide a convenient and cashless way to pay for services such as taxi rides or use health care. SumUp launched its mobile payments service in Brazil and opened an office in São Paulo, where it will allow small businesses to accept all major credit cards with their smartphones or tablets using the SumUp Chip & Signature Card Reader. Charged on a fee per transaction basis, starting at 3.7%, merchants can choose to receive payouts after five business days or 30 calendar days. SumUp has launched a major update of its iOS and Android App. The completely redesigned apps will allow for an even faster payment flow.

JCB International and Caixa Economica Federal (“CAIXA”) signed an agreement for the issuing of JCB cards in Brazil. Starting with credit cards for a total of 5 million accounts in the next 3 years, CAIXA plans to add debit and prepaid JCB brand cards in the near future. JCB is a global payment brand with over 24 million merchants and 80 million cardmembers around the world. In Brazil, with a partnership with Cielo, Brazil’s largest credit card acquirer, JCB card is now accepted at all of the more than 1.2 million Cielo merchants, representing almost every credit card accepting merchant in Brazil.
Morpho (Safran), a leading supplier of high-tech solutions in security, mobility and payment, has just opened in Taubaté, São Paulo, Latin America’s first data center for Trusted Service Management (TSM) technology. The unit, which represents a part of the 3.5 million euros to be invested in Brazil, will provide the infrastructure for all businesses that need secure and convenient electronic mobile payment solutions via NFC, including banks, telecom operators and public transportation. Morpho’s Taubaté data center will enable these customers to streamline projects and releases with TSM technology and accelerate their implementation and operation. This will transform the user’s mobile phone into an electronic wallet with various payment and access features.
CaixaBank and Global Payments payment processing services signed an agreement to form a 50/50 joint venture in the Brazilian merchant payments market to enhance Global Payments’ first incursion into the Latin American market. The new joint venture will be named Comercia Global Payments Brazil and, through its operating subsidiary, is already accepting Visa and MasterCard cards. This agreement will combine the technological and commercial expertise of the two companies, which have been at the forefront of payments innovation including contactless technology, digital payments and mobile solutions (mPOS). The strength of the joint venture represents a competitive advantage the two companies will bring to Brazil, a market that is growing at an annual rate of 20%.
Datacard Group opened a new office to show continued regional commitment to better serve customers and channel partners. The office, which includes a large customer and demo area and houses a team of local Brazilian experts, will support Datacard Group’s channel partners and customer initiatives in Brazil, as well as offer sales, technical consultancy, services and support of Datacard Group’s solutions for instant issuance, desktop and secure identity systems, and central issuance. Gemalto will supply prepaid EMV payment cards to Mobile Financial Services (MFS), the joint venture formed by Telefónica and MasterCard Worldwide. The launch is part of “Zuum”, a new payment service offered by Telefónica’s Vivo brand which aims to provide financial inclusion for the unbanked population of Brazil. Gemalto will also provide MFS with all the personalization services associated with EMV prepaid cards as well as tamper evident packaging and fulfillment to point-of-sale. Nearly 40 percent of Brazilians currently do not use banking services1. With “Zuum”, Telefónica’s Vivo customers will be able to set up a pre-paid account which can be accessed either through their mobile phone or a regular prepaid EMV MasterCard payment card, provided by Gemalto. “Zuum” will allow people to make secure, convenient financial transactions including peer-to-peer money transfers, merchant purchases, ATM cash withdrawal, bill payment, airtime top-ups and more.
