Oberthur Technologies security and identification solutions and services based on smart card technologies and its manufacturing plant has received the Security Accreditation Scheme (SAS) certification from the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) following an extensive third-party audit. Oberthur Technologies is the first smart card manufacturer in South America to satisfy the scheme’s requirements for smartcard production. GSMA’s SAS is a voluntary scheme through which suppliers subject their production sites and processes to a comprehensive security audit. The audit enables mobile operators to effectively assess a supplier’s security standards.
GD Burti of Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) has met the security requirements for Brazilian eID cards. The high-security RIC (Registry of Civil Identity) cards have been granted certification by Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia da Informação while GD Burti has already delivered more than one million RIC cards as part of an initial pilot project. Requirements indicate the national ID cards must contain an eID application as well as a match-on-card solution for fingerprints for unambiguous identification of individuals: state authorities such as the police will be able to scan a person’s fingerprints using a portable device and compare them with those stored on the person’s ID card. Additional security is ensured by Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), which guarantees the authenticity of the data stored on the chip. The RIC card is a hybrid card containing both a contact-based and a contactless module and displays both a photographic image of the ID holder and the holder’s fingerprints are stored on the RIC card.

Diebold financial self-service won the bid to supply more than 3,800 ATMs to Caixa Economica Federal (CAIXA), for which it will supply, install and perform on-site field maintenance. More than 3,500 ATMs are full-function terminals, with an additional 285 terminals that feature a check sheet printing function. Security features include fingerprint biometrics; seismic sensors and systems that protect the keyboard, monitor and card reader; and anti-skimming technology.
MoneyGram International money transfer company launched its new “cash-to-account” service in Brazil with Banco Rendimento foreign exchange companies. The new service enables MoneyGram consumers to send money directly into any bank account in Brazil – effectively adding more than 15,000 bank locations to MoneyGram’s receive network. Brazil is one of Latin America’s largest cash-to-account remittance markets. According to World Bank estimates, up to 60 percent of the $4.7 billion USD in remittances sent to Brazil annually are cash-to-account transactions.

The Brazilian bank Banco Bradesco and BKCP Bank from Belgium will use Clearstream’s IT Hosting and Managed Services. Clearstream Services will run the IT infrastructure for the private banking application hub for Banco Bradesco outside the Americas, with supporting services provided by Real Solutions S.A. For BCKP Bank, the entire IT infrastructure will be supported by Clearstream Services, including the IT office infrastructure within the bank’s branches.

Banco Santander signed agreements with Diebold for the manufacture, delivery and installation of approximately 2,000 new cash dispensers. Custom developed for Brazilians, the machines will serve the largest ATM market in Latin America, which accounts for about 60% of ATMs in the region.
