Moneris Solutions and UnionPay International entered into an agreement regarding Moneris’ acceptance of UnionPay cards beginning later this year. The number of merchants accepting UnionPay cards in the global market has shown a tremendous increase, giving UnionPay cardholders at home and abroad a network of convenient card use. Moneris and UPI will significantly expand this network in Canada with Moneris’ enablement of UnionPay card acceptance. Moneris is expected to launch UnionPay card acceptance as part of its service offerings to merchants in fall 2014.

Element Payment Services PCI compliant payment processing released its “CardSense” PCI DSS compliant payment technology available for both merchants and software providers. Allowing merchants to identify a customer’s payment card type prior to processing a transaction resulting in risk mitigations, lower transaction fees and proper handling at the point of sale, “CardSense receives an identifier that allows the merchant to distinguish between a PIN debit, prepaid debit and healthcare cards. All merchants do is swipe or manually key a customer’s card as normal to determine how they want to proceed with the transaction. This is designed to help users make informed decisions about how they accept payments and ultimately more effectively manage processing expenses.

U.S. Bank has awarded customers $36,000 in
prizes as part of the U.S. Bank Get Ahead in 2010 promotion.
Small business and consumer U.S. Bank Visa credit and check cardholders
had a chance to win up to $10,000 every time they used their eligible
card during the promotion, which ran from Jan. 15, 2010 through Feb. 28,
2010. Two customers won a $10,000 grand prize. Two other customers won a
$5,000 Get Ahead in 2010 prize by using social media to encourage votes
on their story telling on how this prize would help them get ahead in
2010. Twelve customers won a $500 prize in the weekly drawing.
Cardholders registered their eligible card by visiting the promotion
website, allowing for chances to win a randomly-drawn $10,000 prize or a
$500 weekly prize. Then every time they used their card, they earned an
entry into the sweepstakes. Two sets of prizes were awarded â one for
small business and one for consumer cardholders. Cardholders also had the opportunity to earn $5,000 by submitting a
story on how they would use $5,000 to Get Ahead in 2010. They went on to
share their story with friends via Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter or email
and encouraged them to visit the promotion website to vote for their
story. The two stories with the most eligible votes at the end of the
contest period won the $5,000 Get Ahead in 2010 prizes.
Visa has launched a major marketing campaign for the Vancouver 2010 “Olympic Winter Games” built on its “Go World” theme. Visa has already aired the “Get Closer” spot, the first in the series and will be adding the “Anthem” spot later this month. The special “Go World” campaign will also include an extensive Web site containing exclusive merchant offers, behind the scenes “Team Visa” â Vancouver training videos, downloadable photos of athletes in action, and athlete training playlists with songs available for purchase. Additional campaign elements include out-of-home advertising, host market merchant activation programs and usage promotions. When U.S. cardholders use their Visa card through December 31st, they will be automatically entered for a chance to win a trip for four to the Vancouver 2010 “Olympic Winter Games.” The latest promotion follows the recent extension of Visaâs “Olympic Games” sponsorship through 2020.

Bay State Savings Bank holds $300 million in assets, has eight offices
