MasterCard Worldwide announced a $1 million grant to the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE) to support entrepreneurship education programs for middle and high school students in low-income communities. It will support NFTE’s core U.S. school-based youth entrepreneurship program that provides hands-on learning and classroom lessons on mathematics, analytical skills and management and planning. MasterCard employees will also have an opportunity to get involved as volunteer educators, helping to create digital “master classes” that teachers across the world can access on-demand to supplement their daily lessons. Over the past two decades, more than 350,000 NFTE graduates have been taught the fundamentals of becoming financially independent by running their own businesses.

Chase charities will receive grants from Chase through Round Two of Chase Community Giving on Facebook. Winning charities will use the funding for a variety of meaningful causes such as youth arts education, pet rescue, humanitarian relief, aiding the homeless and helping people with disabilities. Facebook users selected a humanitarian relief organization, Chabad of Argentina Relief Appeal of New York City, New York, and an animal welfare organization, Petfinder.com Foundation of Tucson, Arizona, as the top recipients of grants from Chase in the final round of Chase Community Giving. Chabad of Argentina, also supported by UNICEF, rescues at-risk children and teenagers.. The Petfinder.com Foundation works with shelters, rescue organizations and animal welfare organizations nationally to help every adoptable pet find a good home. The two charities will receive $500,000 and $400,000, respectively.

Visa and the Cash Learning Partnership have got together for the distribution of money in disaster relief faster, more effective and more secure. Beginning with a focus project in the Philippines, the partnership will support the development of knowledge and tools that will help humanitarian organizations deliver relief funds quickly and efficiently to people affected by natural disasters and other emergencies. The partnership also will promote knowledge-sharing with the broader humanitarian community through the development of trainings, case studies and other resources. The Visa/Cash Learning Partnership collaboration will rely on the experience and expertise of each organization to support cash transfer programming in the Philippines ‘ a country typically at-risk for natural disasters each year.

North Carolina’s SECU has given 54 laptops to the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy
for at-risk youth. The laptops which will be used to enhance instruction at the
institution, feature links to financial literacy programs, including
SECUâs teen website and the National Endowment for Financial Educationâs
NEFE website, as well as Visaâs program, Practical Money Skills for Life
(www.practicalmoneyskills.com). The ribbon cutting ceremony for the
Academyâs computer lab was held on December 7th and attended by North
Carolina Adjutant General William E. Ingram, Jr., numerous Academy
officials and staff, Academy cadets, Shirley Bell â SECUâs Board of
Directors immediate past chair, SECU volunteer Advisory Board member Dr.
Al Wentzy and various Credit Union staff members.
