Futura Card Services Names a New CEO

Stored value card provider Futura Card Services has hired Keven Lake, previously with IBM Global Services and US Internetworking, to serve as CEO and president. Lake has held executive management positions with various divisions of IBM Global Services and US Internetworking. While at IBM, he was responsible for managing relationships and developing strategies with companies such as The Home Depot, General Motors, GMAC and The Coca-Cola Company. While leading US Internetworking’s ecommerce division – now a part of AT&T – he worked closely with Bank of America and other large retail financial and insurance companies to improve customer acquisition programs in both the direct and online sales channels. Futura markets, distributes and services a suite of prepaid MasterCard debit card products that includes reloadable general spend debit cards, gift cards and wage disbursement cards.

Proteus Offers Via SMS Messaging Tool in U.S.

UK-based 2ergo Group subsidiary mobile marketer Proteus has launched “Via”, a self-service messaging tool that allows clients to quickly create and track SMS messaging campaigns. The “Via” messaging modules allow clients to create, schedule and execute campaigns in minutes that connect with customers, drive brand awareness and increase conversion. “Via” supports a wide variety of user experiences and message types — from fun to functional — allowing marketers and customer relations departments to be as innovative as they can be. Example uses include distributing coupons, sending TV show reminders, driving in-store traffic, offering new customer welcome tips and gathering consumer feedback.

AT&T and Citi Beef Up Small Biz Card Offering

Citi has introduced the “AT&T Universal Business Rewards Card.” Cardholders can earn five points for every dollar spent on eligible AT&T products and services; three points for every dollar spent at participating office-supply retailers, gas stations and professional services providers, such as accounting and legal firms; and one point for every dollar spent on all other purchases. Cardholders can earn up to 100,000 points each calendar year. To support the launch AT&T is offering a free one-hour online seminar discussing payment and funding for small businesses. As part of an ongoing series of instructional Web-based seminars and training courses available on AT&T’s small business Web site, the June 12th seminar is titled: “Getting the Most from Payment Solutions: How Credit Cards and Other Tools Can Drive Efficiencies for Your Business.”

Citi Cards Introduces a Gift Card Discount

Citi has introduced a new benefit to cardholders of its “Platinum Select,” “Diamond Preferred” and “AT&T Universal Platinum” cards. The new “Extra Cash” perk enables customers to earn 10% of the eligible purchases made with their card towards a gift card purchase from major merchants. Plus, every customer will receive 100 bonus dollars in “Extra Cash” upon enrollment. Citi has more than 70 gift card participants, 8,000+ hotel locations and a wide range of merchandise items to choose from.

Web Merchants to Increase E-Commerce Investments

Art Technology Group has released the results of a survey focusing on e-commerce that indicates that 96% of respondents plan to either maintain or increase their level of investment in e-commerce strategies or tools to strengthen the online experience for customers. The survey collected data from representatives of more than 50 global brands in industries ranging from retail, media and entertainment, financial services and insurance, telecommunications, consumer product manufacturing ,healthcare, and technology consulting. While all respondents reported annual Web sales of at least $10 million, 58% reported annual Web sales of $100 million or more. Within the majority, 26% reported annual Web sales of $1 billion or more. Despite the reported decline in consumer spending, a majority of survey respondents believed that the slowing U.S. economy would either not significantly impact their e-commerce business overall, or it might even have a positive impact resulting in e-commerce growth.

’08 AmEx Membership Rewards Announced

The additional 140 partners span various sectors allowing for AmEx point redemption in a wide selection of reward categories, including organizations such as Airlines, Car Rentals, Railway, Charities, Dining, Entertainment, Financial Services, Hotels, Merchandise, Retail, Sports and Adventure.

USA Technologies G7 ePort Takes-Off

USA Technologies Q1 Revenues Rise 58%

PA-based USA Technologies reported that revenues for the first calendar quarter rose 58% to $4.3 million. Gross profit rose 182% for the three months ended March 31st. During the quarter the Company processed approximately 3.2 million transactions totaling approximately $9 million in value for our customers, compared with approximately 1 million transactions, totaling approximately $5.5 million during the quarter. This represents an increase of 220% in transaction volume and 64% in dollars processed. As of March 31st, there were approximately 31,000 e-Port devices connected to the Company-â¢s USALive network, more than double the approximate 14,000 devices that were connected one-year ago. Citi Teams with Firethorn for Wireless Access

USAT ePort Connect Stored Value is Launched

ViVOtech Inks a Major Deal with USAT

ViVOtech has entered into an agreement with wireless transaction provider USA Technologies to provide 25,000 contactless/magstripe card readers for USAT’s “ePort” technology. ePort Connect is the first complete portfolio of high-speed turnkey services for the multi-billion dollar unattended point-of-sale market. ePort Connect enables self-service terminals to accept all forms of cashless payments, handles all elements of the transaction processing, and allows customers to monitor their terminals online. The order follows USA Technologies making an initial purchase of 10,000 readers from ViVOtech in 2007 that were installed with the ePort in vending machines. ViVOtech provides techhnology in support of NFC mobile payments, promotions, Over-The-Air (OTA) provisioning infrastructure software, transaction management software, NFC smart posters and contactless terminals.

USA Technologies has launched the “ePort Generation Seven.” The Company’s G-6 was the first device to provide a cashless transaction solution for vending machines that integrated new radio frequency contactless card capability with the traditional swipe card process.
