Starting October 30, UnionPay International, the exclusive sponsor of Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), will offer multiple exclusive privileges, including that of buying tickets in advance, to its cardholders.
Samsung Pay will launch in Korea on August 20 and in the U.S. on September 28. Samsung plans to roll out the service in the U.K., Spain and China, with partners to be named in each market.
The largest telecom operator in Korea, KT, agreed last week to deepen cooperation with China’s UnionPay for mobile payment and technology exchange. South Korea’s Hyundai Card has inked a deal with China’s UnionPay International to issue 12 types of UnionPay card products. All major card issuers in South Korea offer UnionPay cards. BC UnionPay China Pass Debit Card is the first UnionPay card issued in South Korea.
The number of China UnionPay EMV/NFC payments cards issued globally has topped the one billion card milestone. UnionPay’s QuickPass is set to penetrate the South Korea market with BC Cards at the Doota Mall at Dongdaemu. UnionPay QuickPass is already available in more than 8,000 GS25 convenience stores in South Korea
Diners Club International, part of the Discover Global Network, and Bangkok Bank are set to implement their merchant acquiring partnership. Under the agreement, merchants using the Bangkok Bank terminal network will be able to accept Diners Club International, Discover, BC Global, DinaCard and RuPay cards, which are all part of the Discover Global Network. The Discover Global Network is the third-largest payments network in the world, operating in more than 185 countries. Diners Club International became the first multi-purpose charge card in the world, launching a financial revolution in how consumers and companies pay for products and services.
First West Credit Union signed Interac Flash to contactless, tap-and-go technology feature on its debit cards.Interac Flash is a new contactless enhancement of Interac Chip debit cards that enables cardholders to make everyday small value purchases faster by simply holding their card up to a supporting reader. First West will be rolling out Interac Flash and Instant Card Issuance, the ability to create personalized cards in branch for members, in a phased approach at two of its Envision Financial branches. Beginning in mid-June, a limited number of these cards will be available at the Willoughby branch in Langley and High Street branch in West Abbotsford. A greater roll-out is planned for Envision Financial members this fall and to Valley First and Enderby & District Financial members in 2015.
China UnionPay, the national bankcard association in China, reached a number of milestones in 2013 and is now accepted in more than 140 countries and regions and covering more than 10 million POS terminals and 1.1 million ATMs outside of China. Over 24 million UnionPay cards have been issued in about 30 overseas markets. Among major developments last year: The first UnionPay card was issued in Africa; the first time UnionPay has come into cooperation with an international tourism retail group; the first UnionPay credit card is issued in North America; the first time that CUP has cooperated with a local institution in Nigeria to expand the acceptance of UnionPay cards on a large scale; the first UnionPay debit card issued in Australia; and the first UnionPay travel card outside China is issued in Singapore.
First Data Merchant Solutions direct-to-market merchant acquiring business and Diners Club International announced their merchant acquiring agreement. Allowing First Data Merchant Solutions to accept all cards on the Discover Global Network, including Diners Club and Discover transactions- alongside Visa, MasterCard and American Express- the agreement will be especially important to First Data Merchant Solutions customers in the travel, hospitality and entertainment sectors who service and supply international visitors to the UK. The Discover Global Network is comprised of Discover Card, Diners Club International, BC Global Card, DinaCard and Rupay.
North Peace Savings and Credit Union (NPSCU) has won the National Credit Union Innovation Award, Canada, for its implementation of interactive video technology from NCR Corporation, the global leader in consumer transaction technologies. In the 12 months after installing the technology, nearly half of NPSCU’s retail members used the solution and provided a satisfaction rating of 79.1 percent; NPSCU saw net assets grow 13 percent and membership grow 5.7 percent as a result of the technology. NPSCU’s personal teller machines (PTMs) are based on the technology behind NCR APTRA Interactive Teller, which connects individuals to a live, remote teller via a two-way video/audio conversation over an ATM. The remote tellers have full control of ATM functions, creating an interactive experience in which members can complete more than 95 percent of typical branch transactions and do them faster – with transaction times typically 33 percent faster than an average teller interaction.
Silicon Valley Bank released SVB “PayAbility” online and mobile payments service. Co-developed with MineralTree, SVB PayAbility integrates easily with accounting systems like QuickBooks and allows businesses to save time, streamline processes and enhance the security of their payments function. SVB “PayAbility” addresses a gap in payments services available for small and medium-sized businesses and streamlines communication and offers multiple payment options, such as ACH and checks, and innovative documentation management capabilities.
