The National ATM Council- representing 350 non-bank ATM operators across the US- filed a lawsuit in the US District Court for the District of Columbia asserting Visa and MasterCard overcharge for usage fees. Claiming ATM operators are unable to provide discounted rates for transactions over PIN-debit networks not made on Visa or MasterCard, the suit alleges price fixing drives up ATM service fees for consumers, while driving down revenue for ATM operators. The suit claims there are around 400,000 ATMs in the United States, and about 50% are run by independent ATM operators.
Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile may channel more than $100 million into their ISIS mobile payment JV. Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover are all working on mPayment security applications for ISIS.
