Discover ranked highest for credit card customer satisfaction among U.S. credit card companies, according to the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Credit Card Satisfaction Study. Discover received its highest ever overall score in the nine years that J.D. Power has recognized credit card companies’ customer satisfaction, with 828 out of a possible 1,000 points.
Discover is rewarding new student cardmembers with $20 in Cashback Bonus® if their grade point average is 3.0 (or equivalent) or higher each year they are enrolled in school, for the first five years from the account opening.

Discover Financial Services launched its Discover “Cashback Checking” direct banking product. Featuring credit cards, home loans, student loans, personal loans, CDs, money market accounts and savings accounts, “Cashback Checking” accounts pay customers 10 cents for every debit card purchase, Online Bill Payment and check they write, automatically added to the account holder’s Discover card Cashback Bonus balance. With no monthly fees, no minimum balances, free checks and replacement cards; an app that lets customers easily bank on the go with mobile check deposit, mobile bill pay and an ATM locator; and $0 fraud liability for unauthorized transactions and bill pay protection, a full suite deployment is projected for 2014.
Discover is partnering Google to offer cardmembers means to input their credit card directly into Google Wallet by logging into the online Account Center at discover.com/googlewallet. This will give Discover cardmembers the ability to tap and pay for purchases in-store in conjunction with the Google Wallet application on a compatible NFC smartphone and make purchases online. Cardmembers using Google Wallet to pay for items with their Discover card will continue to earn Cashback Bonus® rewards. The credit card will automatically sync to the Google Wallet application for those that have a compatible NFC smartphone.
Discover announced its cards are now accepted at Neiman Marcus luxury retailer and Bergdorf Goodman stores in Manhattan, giving cardmembers Cashback Bonus on all purchases made at these stores. Neiman Marcus became a Discover Cashback Bonus partner allowing Discover cardmembers to redeem their cash rewards for Neiman Marcus gift cards that could be used in-store, at NeimanMarcus.com, Last Call, Bergdorf Goodman, Cusp and Horchow.
Discover announced a grand prize winner of the company’s 2011 Discover Everyday Giveaway Sweepstakes, who was surprised with a check for $1 million as he stepped off the train at Chicago’s Union Station. Discover cardmembers earned one entry into the sweepstakes for every purchase or cash advance transaction made in 2011. The winner, Bill Kirkpatrick, is a 19-year Discover cardmember who won the grand prize award after being entered into the sweepstakes when he made a grocery purchase with his Discover Card on Jan. 9, 2011, in Northbrook. Discover’s Everyday Giveaway Sweepstakes also awarded $325,000 to public schools across the country as part of the monthly prize in 2011. Throughout the year, 12 cardmembers each won $25,000 and could choose a public school of their choice to receive an additional $25,000.
Discover disclosed a 20% increase over 2010 in Cashback Bonus Redemption, while both online and mobile redemptions also grew in popularity as 73% of cardmembers redeemed this way in 2011. Meanwhile, the “ShopDiscover” portal posted sales up 64% on 2010 as site traffic soared 41% as cardmembers flocked to receive an additional 5-20% Cashback Bonus at top online retailers. With this, Discover unveiled its 2012 5% Cashback Bonus calendar with new merchant categories, giving cardmembers the potential to earn up to $75 of additional Cashback Bonus for the first and second quarter of 2012.
Discover partnered with Zynga social game developer to launch the “Winter Wonderland” FarmVille expansion. The customizable holiday farm is the third expansion to be released by the popular social games developer following “English Countryside” and “Lighthouse Cove.” With this, FarmVille players can get an early start on a quest to help a friendly orange Yeti use his Discover card to do his holiday shopping. Players can click on the Discover icon located in their neighbor bar to get an exclusive sneak peek of Winter Wonderland, before it is widely available to all players. When “Winter Wonderland” becomes available to the public on December 5, players will be rewarded with a free virtual gift from Discover just for visiting Zynga’s latest creation.
Discover is starting its gift-giving early this year as the company recently announced a new program with Amazon.com that offers cardmembers Double (2%) Cashback Bonus on up to $250 in purchases each billing period through the end of 2011 at Amazon.com. Discover cardmembers can also pay with Cashback Bonus directly at check-out when they link their card to their Amazon account. This new option allows cardmembers to use their rewards – in a dollar-for-dollar exchange – to get millions of items, when they want them, without having to leave the Amazon site. This season, new redemption processes allows virtual game lovers will have the opportunity to redeem Cashback Bonus for digital game currency through Electronic Arts and Nexon eCertificates. This new offering allows gamers to play popular online games, including The Sims Social, Pet Society and MapleStory. These games join the 150 other redemption partners Discover currently offers as part of its Cashback Bonus program.
