EcoScraps sustainable, organic, chemical- and manure-free lawn and garden products received $250,000 from Chase and LivingSocial as part of the “Mission: Small Business” grant program, designed to increase awareness of the important role small businesses play in local communities. EcoScraps no-chemical alternative soil products and has been able to quickly expand and reach a wide variety of consumers. Participating small businesses from across the country were evaluated based upon their applications which were required to demonstrate a feasible growth plan, creativity, overall passion for their business and the potential to make a positive impact within the local community. A panel of small business experts reviewed nearly 70,000 applications from small businesses across the country and enlisted support from 3.1 million consumers who each voted for their favorite small businesses, for which EcoScraps was one of 12 companies selected.

Ink from Chase of Chase Card Services officially launched its “Jot” mobile application and online solution for small business owners on the go. It saves time allowing users to track, categorize and organize business expenses in real-time from their iPhone and Android. Jot will let Ink from Chase customers receive text alerts within seconds of making a purchase with their Ink card; immediately tag these purchases to custom categories on a mobile device or online; let employees to tag their business expenses; view all transactions on their account, including those of their employees, through their mobile device or online; adjust employees’ card spending limits through their mobile device; and download reports into accounting software. The multi-channel national advertising campaign to introduce Jot will appear across outlets such as ABC, NBC, CNN, Fox, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Entrepreneur, Forbes, INC, the New York Times, Wall Street Journal and numerous social media channels and will continue through 2012.

A majority of Americans report that quality customer service is more important to them in today’s economic environment (61%) and will spend an average of 9% more when they believe a company provides excellent service. Although only 37% of Americans believe companies have increased their focus on providing quality service, 27% feel businesses have not changed their attitude toward customer service and 28% say companies are now paying less attention to good service, according to the American Express “Global Customer Service Barometer.” Additionally, 91% of Americans consider the level of customer service important when deciding to do business with a company while only 24% believe companies value their business and will go the extra mile to keep it; 48% feel companies are helpful but don’t do anything extra to keep their business; and 21% believe companies take their business for granted.
Mocapay has entered a strategic partnership with The University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business School of Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management (HRTM). Windstream has introduced its “Identity Theft Protection,” designed to keep customers informed of attempts to steal their personal information and credit identity to use without their knowledge. A personâs identity is stolen every three seconds in unimaginable ways to open credit cards, apply for loans, rent an apartment or even apply for a mortgage, potentially costing the victim thousands of dollars, ruining their credit. Shielding the customerâs personal information and confidential data, the new solution offers users a 10-year audit of a customerâs Social Security number to determine who is using it; assisting in receiving annual credit reports; Freezing, canceling or replacing payment and ID cards in the event they are stolen; removal from pre-approved or pre-screened credit card or insurance offers; and a dedicated 800 number for Windstream customers to call with questions or for assistance.
ADS’ Epsilon subsidiary has signed an extension agreement with
OH-based KeyCorp to continue providing direct marketing services to
KeyCorp’s KeyBank, through Epsilon’s agency,
“[email protected]”. Under the terms of the extension agreement,
“[email protected]” will remain
KeyBank’s direct marketing agency-of-record, providing services that
include integrated direct marketing strategy, direct mail production and
analytic support. Epsilon’s team will focus on approximately 14 KeyBank
lines of business, including consumer, small business, large corporate,
wealth management, and more. The goals of the direct marketing efforts
are to retain and cross-sell existing KeyBank customers, as well as
acquire new KeyBank customers. In addition to assisting KeyBank with
strategic planning and development
of its direct marketing programs, Epsilon will design the direct mailers
that promote KeyBank’s products and services, which range from checking
accounts and lines of credit to treasury management products and
investment services. Beyond creative design, Epsilon will print and

A new survey shows that 85% of consumers plan to use cash to make
holiday purchases this year. However, the results of the survey from
USAA reveal that 48% of respondents are feeling optimism towards the
upcoming holiday season. But, 56% of the consumers who plan to use cash
for holiday purchases have been saving either diligently or a little
here and there throughout the year and 62% plan to use more cash than
last year. Many shoppers appear to be leaving their credit cards
at home, with 55% of respondents planning to not charge holiday
purchases this year. However, 74% of those who will use a credit card to
make holiday purchases plan to pay off the balance immediately and 20%
say they will pay off the balance in a few months and 7% say they will
pay the minimum balance.
