Gemalto today announced at CES, the addition of next generation Oracle Java™ ME Embedded version 8 solutions based on Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (QTI) chipsets to its Cinterion® portfolio of cellular modules and devices. With support for Java and for the SensorLogic cloud-based software as a service (SaaS) platform, the new products enable Gemalto to launch next generation embedded solutions and services that simplify Machine-to-Machine (M2M) technology and speed up application development to expand the growing Internet of Things (IoT). The new products(1) will target applications from medical devices, automobiles and smart meters to shipping containers, home appliances and alarm systems. Gemalto’s new Java enabled products join an existing portfolio of QTI-based modules that span the full range of cellular technologies, from CDMA to LTE.

Integration of the “Global Money” Ukrainian payment system with “WAY4” payment processing system, developed by OpenWay, allows banks to connect up to 400 types of paid services and develop alternative channels for interacting with clients. The synergy between Global Money and WAY4 system makes the process of starting joint projects with banks significantly easier. Many financial institutions already work on OpenWay’s card processing, allowing the elimination of expenses for reworking the system, while the Global Money payment system has direct contracts with companies to which payments are made. Currently, 24 service providers are available Oschadbank ATM menus.

Oberthur Technologies announced a key partnership agreement with Interop Technologies mobile device management, connectivity gateway, and messaging solutions for CDMA operators. Oberthur Technologies will integrate Interop’s CDMA OTA provisioning platform into its broader OTA management solution in order to serve CDMA wireless network operators worldwide. Oberthur Technologies currently supports GSM operators with its Application Loader and Management (ALM) solution, a field-hardened SIM OTA management platform deployed in 2G and 3G networks. By adding Interop’s CDMA solution to its product suite, Oberthur Technologies enables CDMA operators to manage the full range of available handsets.

MoneyGram International expanded its relationship with Mozido to include its remittance transfer services for approved Mozido mobile wallet applications. The new MoneyGram services are in addition to Mozido’s current gateway services’ arrangement with MoneyGram. Mozido has been a mobile gateway provider for MoneyGram since December 2009, when MoneyGram announced its relationship with SMART in the Philippines to enable cross-border remittances to SMART’s more than 40 million mobile subscribers.

Cielo S.A. merchant acquirer and payment processor has selected NewNet’s “TraxcomSecure Total Control 1000” (TC1000) Secure Transaction Processing platform for the nationwide rollout of its next generation payments processing network. NewNet Communication Technologies secure transaction processing, mobile multimedia content delivery and wireless network infrastructure introduced its “TC1000” systems for deployment in multiple locations at each POP to meet the high capacity, throughput and performance requirements of Cielo’s network. This high-speed transaction network is designed to handle several billion transactions per year and will enable Cielo to further strengthen its leadership position in merchant acquiring and payment transaction processing.
Qualcomm has agreed to acquire substantially all of the assets of Rapid Bridge inventor of advanced techniques for the design and development of semiconductor products. The company’s technology reduces complexity in integrated circuit (IC) development at advanced technology nodes to enable greater design flexibility and optimized die size and power consumption. With this, Rapid Bridge engineering services operations will be integrated into Qualcomm CDMA Technologies, expected to close by the end of fiscal year 2011.
Tyfone mobile financial solutions has announced strategic new hires for expanding and marketing its NFC contactless payment and mobile banking solutions. Tyfone named Todd Nuzum to the new role of vice president of technology, bringing with him more than 25 years’ experience in technology research and development, including 13 years as a business systems architect with First Data merchant processing. Mark Miyamoto brings over 16 years of sales and management experience from various industries to Tyfone and will serve as director of sales. Aparna Battula will serve as director of engineering, with more than 16 years’ experience while Mahendran Kathiresan, serving as director of global alliances, will work out of the Asia-Pacific Division.
Sprint has partnered with Google to launch the “Google Wallet” application with NFC, allowing Sprint customers to tap and pay at retailers worldwide. Initially on the Nexus S 4G, the “Google Wallet” will work on the MasterCard “PayPass” network and allow users to redeem offers and even scan loyalty cards. Sprint is a charter member of the Open Handset Alliance and launched the first 4G Android smartphone. In April, Sprint launched the Nexus S 4G and launched Google Voice integrated with Sprint for Sprint CDMA phones. Sprint is actively working with others in the mobile payment ecosystem and sees this as enabling choices for customers that best meet their needs.
