Square has hired Alyssa Henry to lead engineering for the company to head up engineering operations for Square’s infrastructure and payments platform. Most recently the Vice President of Amazon Web Services (AWS) Storage Services, Alyssa led services including Amazon S3 and Amazon EBS through hypergrowth, and scaled the teams, software, and businesses. Alyssa was Amazon’s director of software development for ordering, with responsibility for Amazon’s ordering workflow software and databases. Before Amazon, Alyssa spent 12 years at Microsoft working on databases, data access technologies, and internal customer relationship management software in a variety of engineering, program management, and product unit management roles. Alyssa started her career as a developer in the financial services industry.

Discover introduced rewarding ways for cardmembers to earn Cashback Bonus this spring, cutting their spending on restaurant and movies purchases. From April 1 through June 30, Discover Cardmembers visiting the online Account Center or calling 1-800-DISCOVER (347-2683), can sign up to earn 5% Cashback Bonus on up to $1500 in restaurant and movie purchases. Discover Cardmembers also can sign up to earn 5% Cashback Bonus on up to $300 in grocery store purchases from May 1 through May 31. After reaching these spending limits, cardmembers will still automatically earn up to 1% Cashback Bonus on all purchases every time they use their cards. Increasing the cardmember rewards experience Discover is offering access to vacation getaway packages; will add Domino’s Pizza, QVC, Under Amour, Aerie and 77 Kids to its list of redemption partners; and added top name brands to its online retail website, ShopDiscover.com.
Guaranty Bank is enhancing online security to protect customers from cyber thieves targeting online banking users of ACH and wire transfer services, offering commercial customers IronKey’s Trusted Access. This gives them secure access to the bank’s site at the point most vulnerable to malware attacks — the customer’s PC. The industry analyst firm Gartner estimates that cybercriminals have robbed banks, businesses and municipalities in the U.S. of more than $3 billion using financial malware. IronKey Trusted Access will be required for all cash management customers and offered to all business banking customers.
Discover disclosed a 20% increase over 2010 in Cashback Bonus Redemption, while both online and mobile redemptions also grew in popularity as 73% of cardmembers redeemed this way in 2011. Meanwhile, the “ShopDiscover” portal posted sales up 64% on 2010 as site traffic soared 41% as cardmembers flocked to receive an additional 5-20% Cashback Bonus at top online retailers. With this, Discover unveiled its 2012 5% Cashback Bonus calendar with new merchant categories, giving cardmembers the potential to earn up to $75 of additional Cashback Bonus for the first and second quarter of 2012.
Discover is starting its gift-giving early this year as the company recently announced a new program with Amazon.com that offers cardmembers Double (2%) Cashback Bonus on up to $250 in purchases each billing period through the end of 2011 at Amazon.com. Discover cardmembers can also pay with Cashback Bonus directly at check-out when they link their card to their Amazon account. This new option allows cardmembers to use their rewards – in a dollar-for-dollar exchange – to get millions of items, when they want them, without having to leave the Amazon site. This season, new redemption processes allows virtual game lovers will have the opportunity to redeem Cashback Bonus for digital game currency through Electronic Arts and Nexon eCertificates. These games join the 150 other redemption partners Discover currently offers as part of its Cashback Bonus program.
