The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau nailed of the nation’s two largest debt buyers and collectors for using deceptive tactics to collect bad debts. The Bureau found that Encore Capital Group and Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) bought debts that were potentially inaccurate, lacking documentation, or unenforceable.

M&T Bank has enhanced its commercial credit card line-up by adding chip technology, a new rewards program and a new card aimed at business executives. The introduction of a computer chip into M&T’s commercial cards offers a better point-of-sale experience for cardholders traveling internationally. Commercial cards issued with the encrypted microchips will feature a custom PIN to be used at chip-enabled merchant locations. Both enhancements use industry-leading technology designed to deliver increased customer convenience. CFG’s mobile check deposits capture check images using a mobile device’s video camera. The check image is captured using the mobile device’s video camera and leverages built-in components to provide real-time feedback to the customer. The Citizens Bank and Charter One Mobile Banking App proactively instructs the customer to make needed corrections like holding the device steady, turning on the flash or getting closer to or pulling back from the check. Once all conditions are met, the video camera automatically takes the picture.
