The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau nailed of the nation’s two largest debt buyers and collectors for using deceptive tactics to collect bad debts. The Bureau found that Encore Capital Group and Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) bought debts that were potentially inaccurate, lacking documentation, or unenforceable.

Alliance Data Retail Systems is buying the Good Sam Visa portfolio from Barclays Bank Delaware.The transaction is scheduled to close before the end of the third quarter. ADS further signed a long-term agreement with Good Sam Enterprises, that includes the Good Sam and Camping World branded products and services. Purchases made with the Good Sam Camping World Visa Credit Card earn Rec Rewards. Good Sam is the world’s largest RV owners organization, with over 1.5 million members.
Enhanced Commercial Credit Card
M&T Bank has enhanced its commercial credit card line-up by adding chip technology, a new rewards program and a new card aimed at business executives. The introduction of a computer chip into M&T’s commercial cards offers a better point-of-sale experience for cardholders traveling internationally. Commercial cards issued with the encrypted microchips will feature a custom PIN to be used at chip-enabled merchant locations. M&T Bank Corp. is one of the 20 largest U.S. bank holding companies, with more than 700 branch offices and 1,500 ATMs in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware and Washington D.C.
Citizens Introduces Mobile Check Deposit and Balance-Viewing Features
Citizens Financial launched more user friendly mobile access. Use of mobile video camera technology improves on mobile check deposit functionality, with higher-quality images that make it easy for Citizens Bank and Charter One customers to deposit checks with their iPhone®, iPad® and Android™ devices. Customers can also now view account balances on mobile devices without logging in. The Citizens “Bank Better” enhancements that expand mobile banking functionality for Citizens Bank and Charter One customers – mobile check deposits and fast account balances. Both enhancements use industry-leading technology designed to deliver increased customer convenience. CFG’s mobile check deposits capture check images using a mobile device’s video camera. The check image is captured using the mobile device’s video camera and leverages built-in components to provide real-time feedback to the customer. The Citizens Bank and Charter One Mobile Banking App proactively instructs the customer to make needed corrections like holding the device steady, turning on the flash or getting closer to or pulling back from the check. Once all conditions are met, the video camera automatically takes the picture.
