Wirecard is now handling all processing of online credit card and PayPal payments for Sky subscriptions. With a current figure of around 4.3 million subscribers, Sky Deutschland is the largest pay TV provider in the German-speaking region.
Oberthur Technologies announced massive deliveries of OT’s MultiSIM for O2 in Germany. OT developed the MultiSIM form factor and adjusted it according to Telefónica Germany requirements. From now on, O2customers do not need to worry anymore, as their new SIM card will fit into any mobile phone. If they want to change from one form factor to another, they do not need to ask their operator for a new SIM card, but can just deplug their MultiSIM. The introduction of OT’s MultiSIM by Telefónica Germany is in line with the issuing of SIM-Plugs instead of ID-sized card bodies which allows the recycling of plastics and marks another step toward environmental sustainability.
MasterCard announced today that, over a one year period ending December 2013, it has grown its contactless footprint in Europe by expanding the number of countries where contactless cards are accepted: contactless is now available in 63 countries worldwide, and in 34 countries in Europe including 7 new countries in 2013: Azerbaijan, Finland, Ireland, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro and the Netherlands. MasterCard® and Maestro® contactless cards or devices have been issued by more than 220 financial institutions in Europe and can be used at almost 2 million merchant locations worldwide, representing more than a 180% year-on-year increase.
At Mobile World Congress last week MasterCard announced a collaboration between Deutsche Telekom, Telefónica Deutschland, Vodafone and TREVICA (a MasterCard owned company) to create a new mobile platform and accelerate the development of mobile payments in Germany. The three mobile operators represent 80% of mobile customers in Germany, which means that banks and financial institutions can hugely accelerate their ability to provide mass- market mobile payment services to consumers. Instead of connecting to individual mobile operators, issuing banks can now connect to TREVICA and have access to a number of mobile operators with one single integration to the TREVICA platform.
Global processing powerhouse First Data had a busy year with nine contract extensions, a new German contract, and expanded nine partnerships. FDC also introduced three new products: Clover Station, VisionPLUS Flex, and Go Daddy Payment Solutions, plus upgraded a number of existing products. FDC also acquired Perka and took 100% ownership of JV. The Company also had three CEO’s during 2013 and received two major awards. Annual revenues also increased slightly in 2013, after two level years.
Atos Worldline hi-tech transactional services signed a framework agreement with Telekom Deutschland for the development, setup and operation of the new “Pay-At-Match” system. This new cashless and cardless system permits secure and convenient payments by enabling customers to use their fingerprint and a personal identification number (PIN). The decisive factor was primarily Atos Worldline technological background and know-how gathered of 40 years. Telekom Deutschland can now benefit from this wealth of experience in implementing innovative, efficient and secure payment systems. By speeding up payment processing, this secure and convenient biometric authentication method reduces waiting times at the cash desk and thus leads to greater customer satisfaction.
First Data electronic commerce and payment processing and TeleCash signed an issuing processing contract with VTB Bank (Deutschland) AG corporate and commercial bank. By this, First Data will provide VTB Bank (Deutschland) AG with issuing services for its new MasterCard corporate card portfolio which features a bespoke bankcard design and comprehensive insurance package. VTB Bank (Deutschland) AG will complete its service package for corporate clients, for which First Data will include technical processing of electronic transactions, operational services and fraud management services.
First Data electronic commerce and payment processing and owner of First Data Deutschland and TeleCash GmbH & Co. KG, has signalled its commitment to the German market by securing long-term leases at its Bad Vilbel and Nuremberg facilities and announcing plans for several major IT infrastructure investments. This in conjunction with finalizing lease negotiations on its premises, securing presence in the building until at least 2017 to remain the regional hub. First Data also confirmed the extension of its lease, to at least end 2017, at its premises in Nuremberg, from which mainly operational services are being provided.
Euronet Germany completed its latest ATM outsourcing agreement with Ikano Bank GmbH, for which it will provide outsourcing services for the Ikano Bank ATMs exclusively located in IKEA Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG stores. This ushers in Euronet as the future ATM provider for deployments with the Company. The machines provide a 2D bar code reader, thermal receipt printer, contactless card reader for mobile wallet payments, extra cassettes for coupons to be dispensed with cash and the potential to add an additional 42 inch digital advertising screen above the ATM. Additionally, the IKEA FAMILY Bezahlkarte, a closed looped store card, will be accepted for cash withdrawals at the Ikano Bank ATMs.
Ceridian Stored Value Solutions is a founding member of the Prepaid Forum Deutschland following a sharp rise over recent years in the use of prepaid payment solutions. The PFD represents the prepaid payments industry in Germany at a governmental level and lobbies for change in the legislative framework governing prepaid solutions. This includes a bill currently being considered by the federal government concerning e-payments and money laundering.
dm-drogerie markt GmbH + Co German-based drugstore has selected and began deploying more than 3,700 Hypercom “Artema Hybrid” payment terminals to its nearly 1,200 retail outlets nationwide. The “Artema Hybrid” features a single slot ‘hybrid’ card reader and secure integrated PIN Pad to accept both magnetic stripe and chip card transactions. It was the first terminal to be certified according to the TA 7.0 chip-card specifications, recently introduced by the Zentraler Kreditausschuss (ZKA) German banking association.
