First Data Corporation today announced the commercial integration of its Perka™ Mobile Loyalty Solution. Its apps are now available through First Data distribution systems. Extending far beyond traditional couponing, newspaper and yellow page ads, or old-fashioned paper loyalty cards, Perka, the most recent offering from First Data Small Business Solutions, is a cloud-based customer loyalty solution that connects businesses to their customers using location-based apps and mobile phones. Acquired by First Data last October, Perka, now a wholly-owned subsidiary, was named one of 2013’s most innovative companies by Fast Company. It helps SMB owners maintain profitable and long-term relationships with their customers by providing a sustainable and highly personalized incentive program.
Gretchen H. Garrigues has joined First Data as chief marketing officer to lead the company’s global marketing efforts. Garrigues comes to First Data with a deep financial services background and leadership skills developed over a long career with GE Capital. She served as senior managing director of global strategic marketing, responsible for strategic planning, new product development, market intelligence and customer insights. SHe also served as a foreign trade officer for the U.S. & Foreign Commercial Service based in Paris, after running a successful startup venture providing language training and translation services across Europe.
First Data Corporation, the global leader in payment technology and services solutions, today released its First Data SpendTrend® analysis for May 1, 2014 through May 30, 2014, compared to May 2, 2013 through May 31, 2013. SpendTrend tracks same-store point-of-sale data by credit, signature debit, PIN debit, EBT, closed-loop prepaid cards and checks from nearly four million merchant locations serviced by First Data. Spending growth of 4.2%, compared to April’s 4.1%, and the average ticket growth of 1.2 % in May gained steam against April’s 0.5% growth, was driven by May’s warm weather, which specifically spurred spending on travel and home improvement.
First Data announced its Board of Directors has named Joseph J. Plumeri vice chairman. Plumeri was appointed to the First Data Board of Directors and as a senior advisor to KKR in August 2013. Since then he also has been serving as senior advisor to First Data Chairman and CEO Frank Bisignano, and as the head of First Data’s client delivery, innovation and marketing organization. He will continue in these roles.Since joining First Data, Plumeri has played a pivotal role in the company’s transformation from a transaction processor to a payments technology company and solutions provider to merchants and financial institutions. Plumeri has spearheaded company-wide efforts to become more client-centric, including realigning how the company delivers solutions to and serves its global and strategic accounts, national merchants and enterprise clients, financial institutions, small business clients, bank partners and agents and ISO clients. Plumeri was chairman and chief executive officer of Willis Group Holdings, plc before joining First Data. Appointed in 2000,
First Data appointed Christopher Foskett head of global, strategic and national accounts. He will lead the organization responsible for bringing strategic value, business partnership and new innovation to the firm’s major financial institution, retail, government and business clients. Foskett most recently was global head of sales for J.P. Morgan’s Treasury Services business and regional executive of the Treasury Services business for North America. Foskett brings a wealth of experience from his 30-year career in financial services spanning a wide range of client-facing activities across corporate and investment banking and transaction services. Global Finance magazine has cited Chris as one the select bankers featured in their ranking of “Who’s Who in Treasury and Cash.
First Data appointed Michael Manos chief technology officer to oversee global technology infrastructure. Manos joins First Data from AOL Inc., where he served as AOL’s chief technology officer and was responsible for global technology and development platforms for all AOL subscription businesses, the industry, technology and media sites, AOL mail and messaging, and global mobile engineering efforts. Prior to joining AOL, he was a vice president at Nokia where he was responsible for the global operations, consolidation and restructuring of service operations for commercial-facing products and services. Before that, he was senior vice president for technical services at Digital Realty Trust where he oversaw the design, engineering, construction, and long-term operation for the company’s data center operations. He has also held leadership positions of increasing responsibility at Microsoft, Walt Disney and Nuclio Corporation.
First Data and MasterCard announced an agreement in which First Data’s STAR® Network will participate in MasterCard’s common U.S. Debit EMV solution. This agreement provides a cost-effective solution and accelerates the ability for EMV functionality to be implemented across the U.S. EMV/ chip cards better protect account information from fraud because they have dynamic data, rather than the static data stored in the magnetic stripe. By working together, MasterCard and First Data will deliver enhanced choices in how debit card issuers identify and apply multiple network relationships to ensure Regulation II compliance in a cost-effective way. Merchants and acquirers will continue to route transactions as they prefer, without costly host systems reprograming.
First Data Corporation announced that BMA Banking Systems has agreed to endorse First Data Online Banking to its financial institution clients. BMA provides banking software and processing solutions to financial institutions ranging from de novos to large industrial loan corporations.The agreement will provide BMA’s clients with access to First Data Online Banking – which includes personal financial manager (PFM), mobile and online bill pay services. The company will fully integrate the solution into its core banking platform.
First Data at Money2020 unveiled its “Clover Station” POS and business management solution for merchants. With the security and reliability of a terminal coupled with the flexibility of a cloud-based POS, Clover Station is the first solution to meet the complete spectrum of small to medium-sized business owners’ needs. First Data and Clover Network partnered to jointly develop the “Clover Station,” powered by intuitive, cloud-hosted software that comes with everything a business owner needs in one convenient package and is ready to work right out of the box. With its small footprint and state-of-the-art design, Clover Station hardware won’t take up a lot of space on a merchant’s counter, but will have a big impact on how they service their customers. First Data piloted the Clover POS solution with hundreds of small businesses in several U.S. cities. Feedback from the pilot indicated that business owners valued the benefits of the Clover solution through streamlined business operations and more time to interact with their customers. Clover Station will be made available to Bank of America Merchant Services small business customers by the end of 2013.
