China’s UnionPay International and Bank of China Singapore Branch are teaming to issue the first UnionPay platinum debit card in Singapore. Previously, Bank of China Singapore Branch had issued quite a few UnionPay credit card products.

Orient Finans Bank has implemented Tieto’s Card Suite solution, ensuring issuing of MasterCard payment cards and their acceptance service in the bank’s terminals. Tieto Card Suite is a technology platform that will be used by the bank for interaction with MasterCard payment system, providing a complete payment card life cycle, processing of transactions committed in the bank’s POS terminals, and assuring secure settlement for customers using payment cards. Orient Finans Bank can now be an independent participant of the payment card market, reduce operational expenses, attract new customers and increase trust among the existing clients.
Wirecard AG has now integrated host card emulation (HCE) into its Mobile Wallet Platform to better allow telecommunications companies, financial service providers, banks and retailers deploy mpayment NFC solutions. HCE makes it possible to carry out secure, NFC-based transactions for payments and services via mobile apps, regardless of whether a physical secure element (SE) is available on the mobile phone. All data generated during a transaction is therefore no longer stored on a hardware component, but instead on a secure centralised server. NFC host card emulation technology is already standard in Android devices starting Version 4.4. Wirecard emulates a one-off token per transaction, which is used in the EMV transaction, replacing the original card data, which is saved in a PCI-compliant database in a secure server environment.
Wave Crest Group Limited, a multi-currency digital payments platform that offers full-service, global solutions, has been selected as program manager and payments technology partner for Commissions2Go’s new commission distribution solution. In the new program, commissionable agents will register with C2Go at C2GoCard.com and receive a personalized C2Go card. C2Go clients can then pay commissions to the account in real time after validation through the C2Go web portal or via a mobile interface using QR codes identifying the recipient. Card recipients can use the C2Go card anywhere major card brands are accepted, or get cash at ATMs. C2Go handles all transaction reporting and 1099s on behalf of their entertainment clients.
UK consumers’ preference for electronic payments continued to increase in 2013 as Visa Europe announces that spending with UK Visa credit, debit, commercial and prepaid cards increased by 9.2% to £445bn. This is according to Visa Europe’s annual results for the year to 30th September 2013. Spending by UK cardholders with Visa debit increased by 9.3% on the previous year. Debit payments account for over 80% of Visa Europe’s business in the UK. More than £1 in every £3 spent in the UK is now spent using Visa. Growth was also strong in other core areas of the Visa Europe business, with spending on commercial cards increasing by 18.1% and on prepaid cards by 42.8%.
Wirecard AG integrated its Bluetooth low energy (BLE) technology- “Bluetooth BLE Smart Payment”- into its mWallet platform as an additional payment technology service. BLE is the third contactless payment standard to be supported by Wirecard’s mobile solutions. The operating systems of modern smartphones enable innovative ways of ensuring customer loyalty and processing payments. Wirecard will present its first showcase using Bluetooth low energy at this year’s Hubert Burda Media Digital Life Design (DLD) Conference, which will be held in Munich from 19 to 21 January 2014. Wirecard is implementing this project in conjunction with its partners Deutsche Telekom and Orderbird, a company that offers cashier systems for restaurants.
AnywhereCommerce is set to launch its mpayment acceptance device, Nomad 2.0, at CARTES 2014 in Paris. The newly designed EMVCo L1, L2 certified, PCI 3.1 approved and Visa Ready device works with mobile phones and tablets to enable mobile point of sale (mPOS) acceptance of Chip-and-PIN and magnetic stripe card payments. Nomad 2.0 is designed to flexibly support multiple card-present payment method options, including debit, credit, gift and loyalty card transactions through both magnetic stripe technology and EMV Chip-and-PIN functionalities. The device employs patented encryption technology, and provides the option to connect to a mobile device through secure Bluetooth or a USB port. Nomad 2.0 is compatible with Android, iOS, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8 operating systems.
Wincor Nixdorf AG is pooling its software and professional services expertise in Utrecht in the Netherlands. Wincor Nixdorf CEO Eckard Heidloff officially opened the new Software Headquarters on September 18, 2013 in the presence of Remco van Lunteren, Member of the Provincial Executive of the Province of Utrecht. Wincor Nixdorf aims to build on its software strength and is already generating revenue of more than EUR300 million in the software sector. Around 50 employees from Wincor Nixdorf will initially start work in the office complex in Utrecht from October 1; the addition of further staff is also planned. Software for banks and retail companies Banks and retail companies worldwide are striving to make their branch and store processes leaner and more automated. Banks and retailers tend to use non-standardized software. Wincor Nixdorf therefore sees great opportunities in this for offering standard software to handle all the self-service and branch or store processes, irrespective of the hardware installed. Functional enhancements can thus be added quickly and cost-effectively.
Paymill payment service provider now enables merchants to accept multiple credit cards, now offering American Express, Diners Club and others. Merchants can accept payments in 120 transaction currencies from their customers all over Europe, reducing the traditional hassle and complexity, as PAYMILL allows merchants to handle and process all cards and currencies in one account from everywhere in Europe. PAYMILL launched AutoInvoicing as well. Merchants can now add invoicing and merchant notifications on their PAYMILL account. The installation is very simple and straight forward and enables merchants to send out automated invoices to their clients in their company’s corporate identity. This reduces administrative efforts and costs and makes business even more efficient.
Tieto has provided a Card Suite solution allowing OTP Bank Russia to offer their customers P2P payments as well as utility payments functionality. This provides faster transactions, improved access and lower service costs for the cardholders, on which OTP Bank and Tieto have a long-term experience of working together and implementing. The latest project is a result of OTP Bank’s business goal to implement a more effective and secure internet bank payment solution. The Card Suite solution offers a more secure authorization and processing of internet bank payments. All internet bank payments are now momentarily authorized in an external system, which decreases the risks of overdraft. The “Card Suite” P2P Transfer Service solution allows transferring funds from one card to another using various channels like ATM, in-branch POS terminal, mobile bank, internet bank, info-kiosk and others.
