Compass Plus electronic payment solutions and retail banking systems has completed scalability and performance tests on HP servers for their “TranzAxis” Open Development Banking Platform. A specialist, integrated platform created for the development and support of cards and payments, transaction switching, retail banking and other systems and applications in the domain linked to the automation of retail banking activities, “TranzAxis” was tested through a simulated issuing and acquiring setup that required it to drive 20,000 terminals (10,000 ATMs and 10,000 POS devices). TranzAxis also acted as an issuing system that included 10 million accounts with overdrafts and 10 million cards linked to them. The platform reached a sustained peak of 1066 transactions per second (TPS) during testing and remained stable at that high capacity.

Inside Secure and TazTag launched the “TazPad V2” seven-inch Android 4.0 (aka Ice Cream Sandwich, or ICS) tablet computer. Available now from TazTag, the “TazPad” tablet combines the EMVCo-certified secure near field communication (NFC) capabilities provided by the INSIDE Secure SecuRead(R) NFC module and Open NFC(TM) protocol stack with biometric authentication capabilities and an extensive array of wireless connectivity technologies to enable solution providers to efficiently support a variety of commercial, professional and consumer mobile applications. The TazPad uses the EMVCo-certified secure element of the SecuRead module to securely store fingerprint images, which can then be compared to those gathered through the built-in fingerprint scanner for authentication purposes.

MasterCard Worldwide ‘Tech Nation’ poll now shows how various European countries are leading the way with new payment technologies such as mobile and contactless. The online research, conducted in November by Ipsos MORI amongst more than 8,000 adults aged 16-64 across Europe concluded Turkey and Russia top the table of tech savvy countries where 31% (Russia) and 13% (Turkey) currently use mobile payment technologies, well above Great Britain at just 6%. Equally, contactless technologies have been adopted by more people in Russia (12%) and Turkey (10%). With this, consumers in Russia and Turkey have the greatest uptake of mobile and contactless payment technologies, although Russia lags behind the other countries surveyed on e-commerce payments (49%) while the use of cheques is still prevalent in France (75%) and GB (56%) whilst in Russia, Turkey and the Netherlands this figure is just 4%. Of those consumers using contactless technology today, those in Russia (44%), the Netherlands (47%) and Germany (44%) use this technology more frequently – on a daily or weekly basis.

Visa and the Cash Learning Partnership have got together for the distribution of money in disaster relief faster, more effective and more secure. Beginning with a focus project in the Philippines, the partnership will support the development of knowledge and tools that will help humanitarian organizations deliver relief funds quickly and efficiently to people affected by natural disasters and other emergencies. The partnership also will promote knowledge-sharing with the broader humanitarian community through the development of trainings, case studies and other resources. The Visa/Cash Learning Partnership collaboration will rely on the experience and expertise of each organization to support cash transfer programming in the Philippines ‘ a country typically at-risk for natural disasters each year.
Among the British population, 35% disclosed their intentions to take more spending money on their holidays this year than last. Another 43% plan to spend the same and only 13% planning to spend less. These findings, according to a YouGov survey commissioned for “BreadFX Prepaid Euro” MasterCard, also showed 30% of GB adults either buy currency at the airport or at their destination or use their UK debit or credit card. The “BreadFX” MasterCard can be ordered online, is accepted at some 30 million outlets worldwide where the MasterCard Acceptance Mark is displayed and to draw cash from an ATM.
