GlobalPlatform announced Bruno Benteo, Vice President Innovation at Morpho Business Solutions Division, has been appointed as its new Systems Committee Chair. The GlobalPlatform Systems Committee defines open specifications that can be used for the back-office infrastructure for the deployment and management of one or more embedded applications on secure chip technology. Within his role as the Systems Committee Chair, Bruno will drive the ongoing work of the group to develop an end-to-end simplified framework. Over the next 12 months Bruno will lead the Systems Committee’s efforts to advance the GlobalPlatform Compliance Program to certify the functional behavior of a product against the requirements outlined within the end-to-end framework. In addition, the Systems Committee is developing an end-to-end testing program, which tests all elements of an end-to-end solution including the SE, handset and point of sale, to ensure that an application can be securely deployed in a mobile handset and perform for the end user as specified.
GlobalPlatform, has qualified Fime’s ‘Global’ test tool, validating its ability to evaluate the functionality of secure elements (SEs) to support payment, telecom and identity applications. The tool is available for SE providers, mobile network operators (MNOs), and handset manufacturers, to purchase for pre-certification development testing, and as part of FIME’s laboratory testing service portfolio. GlobalPlatform test libraries have been added, including the Common Implementation Configuration, Secure Element Access Control and Secure Element Configuration. Additionally, the tool is qualified to confirm SE compliance to specifications outlined by the payment systems, with further libraries to be confirmed in the coming months.
GlobalPlatform announced the launch of a Security Task Force, which will define the association’s security philosophy and tailor GlobalPlatform’s Specification offerings for the security ecosystem. The task force has been created in response to the increasing number of secure and trusted services that are being deployed on devices such as smartphones that contain often under-utilized secure chip technology, but need to be protected. The group’s immediate priorities are to develop white papers to communicate GlobalPlatform’s role in the security ecosystem and to host GlobalPlatform security workshops with industry representatives to explore the management of secure and non-secure applications on a mobile device. In order to achieve its goals, the group will also facilitate discussions regarding security requirements for devices incorporating secure chip technology and actively contribute to industry efforts to streamline security certification. The group is currently made up of 42 GlobalPlatform Member companies.

Beijing Unionpay Card Technology joined GlobalPlatform as a Participating Member. BCTC will make participation in the GlobalPlatform compliance program a priority, in order to work towards becoming a recognized GlobalPlatform testing laboratory. The program – through its approved laboratories, qualified test tools and established testing infrastructure – standardizes the management of applications on secure chip technology and seeks to ensure the advancement and maintenance of an interoperable, sustainable and trusted end-to-end environment for managing applications on secure chip technology. BCTC will have representation in GlobalPlatform’s Card Committee and will also contribute to all aspects of GlobalPlatform’s market specific task forces. The aim of the Card Committee is to define industry and technology-neutral specifications for the secure, interoperable deployment and management of multiple embedded applications on secure chip technology.
GlobalPlatform announced its newest Observer Member, Advanced Card Systems. ACS, a leading supplier of PC-linked smart card readers, has joined GlobalPlatform to contribute to industry efforts towards tighter security, better management and accelerated deployment of secure chip technology. ACS is able to participate in discussions held by the GlobalPlatform Advisory Council and contribute to GlobalPlatform’s task force initiatives. These groups define specific market requirements and assess how GlobalPlatform’s Specifications can be advanced in line with future needs.
Global smart card testing service provider, CETECOM, has joined GlobalPlatform as a Participating Member.CETECOM has identified participation in the GlobalPlatform compliance program as a key priority in order to work towards becoming a recognized GlobalPlatform testing laboratory. As the association which standardizes the management of applications on secure chip technology, GlobalPlatform seeks to ensure the advancement and maintenance of an interoperable, sustainable and trusted end-to-end environment for managing applications on secure chip technology. The association is achieving this through its established testing infrastructure and qualified test tool providers and laboratories.
GlobalPlatform announced smart card and information security chip solution supplier, Shanghai Huahong Integrated Circuit Company Limited as its latest Observer Member. In joining GlobalPlatform at Observer level, SHHIC will participate in market-specific task force discussions, with particular reference to the management of secure chip applications deployed within the mobile services sector.

Hengbao smart card products and technology solutions which operates across the banking, telecommunication, identity and internet of things markets – will direct its attention towards GlobalPlatform’s Task Force initiatives. These groups define specific market requirements and assess how GlobalPlatform’s Specifications can be advanced in line with future needs.
GlobalPlatform has qualified the new Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Mapping Guidelines and the Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform SWP and HCI. UL is offering a full portfolio of GlobalPlatform qualified test suites that completely ensure the interoperability of smart-cards or secure elements within the GlobalPlatform ecosystem. The Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Mapping Guidelines ensures the compliance of a card that implements the GlobalPlatform Mapping Guidelines specification and has also been designed to be compatible with other cards that implement a core set of GlobalPlatform Card 2.2.1 functionality.
GlobalPlatform announced Proxama as its latest Observer Member, an NFC mobile wallet and mobile marketing technology provider. Its membership with GlobalPlatform will focus on the efforts of the association’s Mobile Task Force, which works to understand the business requirements of the secure mobile services ecosystem to establish an agreed infrastructure. This comes after GlobalPlatform recently surpassed 100 members.

The infrastructure delivers a trusted end-to-end solution, which facilitates the secure and interoperable deployment and management of multiple embedded applications on secure chip technology. The need to deploy services using an agreed infrastructure has become particularly important as markets converge to deliver innovative chip-based services to consumers through mobile devices.
