GlobalPlatform and the Global Certification Forum (GCF) independent certification scheme for mobile phones and wireless devices have inked partnership agreements. Allowing the companies to collaborate on the optimization of testing and certification procedures, the partnership will support and accelerate the deployment of secure near field communication (NFC) services. The initial focus of the collaboration will be on mobile NFC handset compliance to reflect that GlobalPlatform’s Secure Element Access Control (SEAC) test suite has been referenced by GSMA’s TS.27 NFC Handset Testbook which is based on 3GPP and 3GPP2 standards.
FIME’s Japanese operation has been accredited as a MasterCard test laboratory for mobile handsets. FIME testing focuses on confirming the compliance and interoperability with the EMVCo Contactless approval process.
FIME testing focuses on confirming the compliance and interoperability with the EMVCo Contactless approval process. The ability to save time and money throughout the certification process is of great value to Japanese manufacturers. Vendors in the region can access FIME’s global expertise quicker than ever before and tap into our knowledge of the regional ecosystem’s variations and complexities in order to achieve this approval quickly and effectively.
GlobalPlatform announced Bruno Benteo, Vice President Innovation at Morpho Business Solutions Division, has been appointed as its new Systems Committee Chair. The GlobalPlatform Systems Committee defines open specifications that can be used for the back-office infrastructure for the deployment and management of one or more embedded applications on secure chip technology. Within his role as the Systems Committee Chair, Bruno will drive the ongoing work of the group to develop an end-to-end simplified framework. Over the next 12 months Bruno will lead the Systems Committee’s efforts to advance the GlobalPlatform Compliance Program to certify the functional behavior of a product against the requirements outlined within the end-to-end framework. In addition, the Systems Committee is developing an end-to-end testing program, which tests all elements of an end-to-end solution including the SE, handset and point of sale, to ensure that an application can be securely deployed in a mobile handset and perform for the end user as specified.
GlobalPlatform, has qualified Fime’s ‘Global’ test tool, validating its ability to evaluate the functionality of secure elements (SEs) to support payment, telecom and identity applications. The tool is available for SE providers, mobile network operators (MNOs), and handset manufacturers, to purchase for pre-certification development testing, and as part of FIME’s laboratory testing service portfolio. GlobalPlatform test libraries have been added, including the Common Implementation Configuration, Secure Element Access Control and Secure Element Configuration. Additionally, the tool is qualified to confirm SE compliance to specifications outlined by the payment systems, with further libraries to be confirmed in the coming months.
GlobalPlatform has qualified the Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Open Mobile API, enhancing UL’s portfolio of compliance test suites for mobile device testing. This test suite has achieved qualified status under the GlobalPlatform Compliance Program. The Collis Compliance Test Suite for GlobalPlatform Open Mobile API implements the official test plan developed for the GlobalPlatform Compliance Program. The test suite ensures the compliance of a mobile device that implements the SIMalliance Open Mobile API test specification (version 2.05) for Transport API (version 1.0). This test specification specifies how to test the Transport API part of the Open Mobile API. UL is a GlobalPlatform (GP) qualified laboratory that provides test certification services to confirm a product’s compliance to GP specifications using GP qualified test tools. UL has been qualified under the GlobalPlatform compliance program for approvals testing according to GP configuration specifications.
EMVCo has approved Fime’s laboratory to its EMVCo Contactless Communication Protocol Specification. This accreditation means FIME Japan can support chip card and mobile device manufacturers with type approval testing of their products to the requirements defined by EMVCo. EMVCo is the EMV® technical body collectively owned by American Express, Discover, JCB, MasterCard, UnionPay and Visa. It accredits laboratories and qualifies test tools that in turn can support product type approval. This particular EMVCo contactless specification describes the minimum functionality required for operation and market interoperability of contactless payment cards and NFC enabled mobile devices.

GlobalPlatform announced the launch of a Security Task Force, which will define the association’s security philosophy and tailor GlobalPlatform’s Specification offerings for the security ecosystem. The task force has been created in response to the increasing number of secure and trusted services that are being deployed on devices such as smartphones that contain often under-utilized secure chip technology, but need to be protected. The group’s immediate priorities are to develop white papers to communicate GlobalPlatform’s role in the security ecosystem and to host GlobalPlatform security workshops with industry representatives to explore the management of secure and non-secure applications on a mobile device. In order to achieve its goals, the group will also facilitate discussions regarding security requirements for devices incorporating secure chip technology and actively contribute to industry efforts to streamline security certification. The group is currently made up of 42 GlobalPlatform Member companies.
