Viewpointe has reached an agreement with WesPay (Western Payments Alliance), a membership association promoting the best use of electronic payments, whereby WesPay will acquire the assets of Viewpointe’s Regional Payments Association (RPA). Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Both organizations are working diligently to complete the conditions of closing by year end. When closing conditions are met and the deal is completed, WesPay will retain full ownership of the assets. The expanded association will continue to do business as WesPay. Viewpointe’s Regional Payments Association provides education on the latest payments topics and certification preparation for payments professionals; offers expert-led ACH audit and compliance services for financial institutions, payments processors and businesses using ACH; and provides industry-level member advocacy and input into the ACH Rules-making process as a voting member of NACHA”The Electronic Payments Association.

Mike Isbister, a senior security consultant with Confide, is now Qualified Security Assessor (QSA) certified from the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council and qualified to audit merchants for PCI DSS Compliance. Mike has a BSc (Hons) in computer science from Victoria University of Wellington and joined Confide last year as a senior security consultant. Confide is a Wellington-based company providing specialist assistance, advice and solutions to help merchants comply with PCI DSS.
Earthworks System recycled PVC sheets for the plastic card industry and plastic card recycling programs partnered Macy to provide a recyclable gift card program. Macy’s will be the first major department store to offer a recyclable gift card program, which partnered Earthworks System to keep millions of gift cards out of landfills. The Earthworks System Recyclable identifier will be imprinted on Macy’s gift cards to indicate it is made of Earthworks System approved recyclable material. Macy’s department store locations will collect spent gift cards for their return to Earthworks System where they will be reprocessed into printable sheet and re-sold to printers to make new cards.
Chase Card Services added MileagePlus Holdings of United Continental Holdings as its newest “Ultimate Rewards” point transfer partner. Chase “Sapphire Preferred,” “Ink Plus” and “Ink Bold” cardmembers will now be able to instantly transfer Ultimate Rewards points to MileagePlus accounts at full value – meaning one Ultimate Rewards point is equal to one MileagePlus award mile. There are no restrictions or limits to the number of points cardmembers can transfer to MileagePlus – an unparalleled offer no other credit card rewards program currently provides. The Chase “Ultimate Rewards” program, offers virtually limitless opportunities to earn and redeem rewards without earnings caps, airfare blackout dates or points expiration.
Citi and JCB International (JCBI) extended their partnership, adding JCB credit card merchants in nine countries and territories throughout Asia. The agreement covers JCB acceptance in all of Citibank’s acquiring markets in the region, enabling the bank’s merchant base, both physical and ecommerce, to accept JCB cards across the region. Citibank, the global retail and consumer banking business of Citi, will phase in JCB card acceptance for purchases at Citibank merchants in Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia, together with expanding the existing relationships in Singapore, Taiwan and Guam.
Chase Card Services and United Airlines launched the “United MileagePlus Explorer Card.” The “MileagePlus Explorer Card” gives users privileges such as first checked bag free, priority boarding, passes to United airport club lounges and the ability to redeem MileagePlus miles for any seat, any time, on any United flight, with no restrictions and no blackout dates. If seats are available for sale, they can be redeemed by Cardmembers at the Standard Award level. The New Card also offers enhanced travel and purchase protection coverage and a suite of benefits such as dedicated concierge service available 24/7 for simple gift ideas, restaurant and local entertainment recommendations. The rewards scheme lets users earn one mile for every $1 spent on all other purchases; earn 25,000 MileagePlus bonus miles after their first use of the Card; and 5,000 additional bonus miles after adding an authorized user and using the MileagePlus Explorer Card within two months of opening the account. Miles earned in the MileagePlus program by Explorer Cardmembers will not expire as long as program members are MileagePlus Explorer Cardmembers.
N&P’s debit card fee-free ATM withdrawals and POS transactions outside the UK, has gone global since it was launched in January 2011, the Society has announced. N&P’s VISA debit card has been used all the way from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, with hundreds of thousands of ATM withdrawals and point of sale purchases being carried out without any additional fee to the cardholder, resulting in some very important savings for customers. Spain had the highest number of ATM withdrawals in the first six months of 2011, more than three times that seen in France (second highest), with Australia third and Thailand fourth; The average withdrawal of local currency from an overseas ATM was the equivalent of £108.60 in Sterling; The largest average withdrawal of local currency was in Afghanistan with the equivalent of £247.03 for each withdrawal, closely followed by Russia (£237.16), Ivory Coast (£217.87) and Swaziland (£204.66); The smallest average withdrawals were seen in Senegal (£20.25) per withdrawal, Botswana (£25.66), Bosnia (£26.51) and Cayman Islands (£27.06); and The average ATM withdrawal in super-rich Monaco was just £83.48, almost the same as Ethiopia (£82.37).
